Rabbits

The Yeti

Recommended Posts

I'm in Bloomington and I've been known to use a BB gun on rabbits. Just make sure you hide from your neighbors.

I'd say a sprinkler but I doubt you want to run that much water.

You could try purchasing a fake owl and putting it out there.

Let a few stray cats out in the neighborhood.

You could try spreading some Milorganite around the area. I use it in my flower beds and the rabbits seem to stay away from the areas treated. It's a granular fertilizer that I think has human scent in it? A landscaper buddy suggested this to me and it has helped.

Since when does a .22 not make noise? A .22 in the City could ricocchet and become a problem. A cheap little air-powered BB gun will do the job and is alot less likely to become a problem.

That's the problem. I live in the suburbs and am not about to fire a .22 in the neighborhood!! Hesitant about a pellet gun also. Something to put on the areas that would force them away would be better.

Please see just about any thread in the Bird Dog Forum.... laugh.gif

Seriously, even if you use a sub-sonic in the city, you're firing a powder-charge firearm. A soft lead pellet from an air-gun would get you in a lot less trouble. (not saying you wouldn't get in any trouble here)

I also use a live trap, and bait it with fresh fruits and greens. I put this out before anything sprouts in the spring. Yes, I still "dispatch" of the buggers. Studies prove they don't relocate well. Stress, predators, etc. Kill mom before she puts out the young-ins', and you'll be better off.

But if you must, I'm sure your local pet groomer would be happy to supply you with lots of fresh dog hair. Put that around your plants and you'll get as good a result as any, with the acception of terminating the little eating machines.

Die bunny die.

/Yes, I've got bunny issues.

//HAD bunny issues

///Hassenpfeffer anyone? I've got plenty!

the bullets that I use don't make any noise, you only hear the hammer from the gun. If you don't belive me try them yourself. you should try them the are great.

there is powders that helps but you have to reapply after it rains. I have used dog hair for deer around apple trees it would probably work for the little guys too.

there it only one way that I know for sure that works - gun (of some sort)

Yeti, I have had problems with rabbits and deer, the deer destroyed a small apple tree and the rabbits are always hungry. I bought a product called plantskydd at the local country store . The stuff is suppose to last six months, unlike most repellant sprays. I put it on two months ago and nothing has bothered any of the plants or trees I applied it to. It comes in liquid or powder that you mix up yourself, It's a little on the expensive side but so are trees, the stuff smells like they should pay to to take it. Good Luck, Zent

I think this alledged rabbit problem is all in your head! I'm not saying it is mind you, I'm saying it could be?

In your case, if in fact you have a real problem and not a figment of your imagination, or to many Rolling Rocks, here is a few creative things you can do...

Sprinkle liberal amounts of powdered red pepper over your lawn, when the rabbit sits down, it will recieve a lingering burn to it's brown eye and it won't come back! Thats one thing you can do.

Here's another....during the middle of the night, when you think the rabbits are in your front yard and in the grass killin mode, without turning on any lights in the house, sneak out with an ugly pair of wrinkled up boxer shorts on and run screaming, yelling, flailing your limbs and gnashing your teeth, through the intire yard...repeat the process every 10 minutes for about an hour...this is guarenteed to get some results!

Here's something else you could try...get someone named Cletus to come and smile at them...maybe blow them a few kisses.

Lastly, and this will work, no doubt...get some depends, run a hose from the depends, through a Radio Shaack amplifier, out your bedroom window, along side the house and point it in the direction of the alledged trespassing rabbits, attach the nozzel end of the funnel into the hose and wire it down good so it doesn't blow out...the wide part of the funnel will give you more width to cover a bigger area.

Now, before you go to sleep at night, partake of the following bedtime snack...1/4 cup of Saurerkraut, one small can of Boston baked beans, 3 hard boiled eggs, and a small medley of cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Espergus, Broccoli, and a little Tofu, topped with Blue Cheese.

When you finish your snack, kiss the wifey goodnight, slip on the modified depends, turn up the amp and go to sleep.

In the morning, before you go to work, go out on the front yard and pick up all charred, smoking and dead rabbits from the lawn, so they don't scare the little kids in the neighborhood. Try it, it will work...trust me. grin.gif

Good to know. It probably just one of those warnings they have to alert folks of because it happens 1 in 10,000 times (hopefully less than that).

I did a formal check and they certainly have a warning for this on their HSOforum. Iffin one would get jamed in the barrel and you would fire another round, that could be bad. Just wanted you to be aware.

The rabbits, for some reason, have stopped parking in the yard over night. I have not seen as many hot spots in the last couple weeks. I like Grebe's ideas, laugh.gif Gas em out!! Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I think I'm still buying a pellet gun though... I should set up my trail cam on one of the trees just to see if they are still around..

Don't need a trail cam to spy on them, we were there last night and two of em were in the yard to greet us....under your new shed is going to be an excellent spot for them to call home and raise a family, or 6! Teach Hannah Banana and Dixie to attack them on sight!

I was using a pellet rifle with a scope on it with great success until my wife found out about it. She didn't think it was fair of me sitting up on the deck and shooting down on them. So to give the little buggers a sporting chance I bought a pellet pistol. Not as accurate yet, but the results are still the same....

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
