Moultrie Game Spy 200 3.1 Scouting Camera

Recommended Posts

Last time I was at Cabelas I noticed this camera. Has anyone purchased one of these cameras yet? If so I am wondering what kind of trigger speed they have? It has some neat new features. The new imprinting option displays time, date, location, temperature and moon phase on each of the photos so you know when the game near your camera is most active.

Also I have not read anything about being able to use a removable memory card, sounds like it only stores pictures internally and that will not work for me. I do not want to bring the camera out of the woods everytime I remove pictures. It uses one of those bigger 6 volt batteries.

Cabelas had it for $180.00

If you go to Moultries web site it says it will last up to six weeks on a 6 volt battery which wouldn't be to bad. I wonder how many pictures in can take with a fresh 6 volt?

I'm trying to find a good second camera that wont break the bank but I don't want a slow trigger speed either.

It might last 6 weeks if it doesnt take any pics... crazy.gif

I hear ya. A decent priced cam, that has a good trigger speed would be good. But dont forget that decent battery life is another factor.

For me personally, the battery life is one of the biggest factors. Sometimes I am not able to check the cameras for 3 weeks+. The last thing I want is a camera that will die before I get up there.

Moultrie doesnt have the reputation of long lasting batteries. Or,,,, fast trigger speeds. Which is my next most important factor....

I have used the moultrie 3.1 and it is very hard on the 6 volt batteries 2 weeks was pushing it on mine. cuddeback is the way to go longer battery life and great pictures. i'm going for the exite this year because the moultrie broke me on batteries.

The moultrie you are looking at does use a SD memory card. If the battery life is not an issue and you find the trigger speed OK the camera should work for you. You can compensate for a slow trigger speed by aiming the camera in the same direction of deer travel instead of across the trail. In a feeding area the deer don't usually move too fast so trigger speed isn't that critical.

I bought the cheaper Moultrie camera last year right before bear season. I picked up a rechargeable battery for it. If positioned in the right area it worked great. For the price I paid, I was very happy with it. I checked it at least once a week so dead batteries were not a problem. I used it all fall and right up until the bucks dropped their horns. For a hundred bucks, I was pleased....

I SAW THE CAMERA AT CABLEAS ALSO, BUT IT IS A 4.1 MEGAPIXIL, OBVIOUSLY MADE FOR CABELAS BY MOULTRIE. THE PRICE WAS 149.00 WHICH IS PRETTY GOOD. I WENT TO GO GET ONE THIS WEEK AND THEY WERE ALL GONE. I WENT ON LINE AND THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER, UNFORTUNATELY THEY DON'T TELL HOW LONG THEY WILL BE ON BACK ORDER?

I bought the gel battery for my stealth last year that comes in its own case and I cannot remember what I paid for it but I used it all year on one charge, taking about 150 photos- well worth and who knows how long it would have gone-
