How fast can your little fishing boat go?

Fishin4Life

Question

Just curious. I have a little 14ft standard fishing boat with the bench seats. It has an 18hp motor. The other day with minimal gear I got it up to 25mph as per gps. I know there are a lot of guys out there with little boats like mine, just curious to see what all your little boats can do with what power motors...

16' Bass tracker Guide V-16 w/ 25 horse Merc. Not sure how fast, but with two big guys in the back we have to rock foreward a little to get her to plane

. To her credit though, the back-seat-mounted live-well always has a little water in it and the decking and storage lockers on this boat is heavy...but nice to have. On plane, maybe 18-20 mph w/ just me in it. The perfect boat for Metro lakes! A little scary on Mille Lacs though.

Same boat we have....our livewell ran into some issue years back and has since not been useable. Been wanting to upgrade to a 40hp for it. Been a good boat for us. Been a few windy days on LOW that were a bit questionable!!shocked.gif

Two weeks ago we (3 guys) were on Mille Lacs in a 14' boat with a 9.9hp......it was a good thing it was not any windier. Needless to say we made it to the closest flat and did decent.

I remember about 20 years ago in canada we had a 14' aluminum sea-nymph with a 15 horse johnson. 3 guys and boat load of gear we hit a rock and broke the motor off the transom the johnson did about 200 mph to the bottom of the lake and the boat did about .00005 mph with one oar getting us back to shore

16ft Lund Rebel Special, 40 horse Evinrude on the back, 29 mph with 2 people full gas tank, 2 batteries, full livewell, way to much fishing gear and cooler.

By myself I'd guess somewhere around 32-34 but have never GPS'd it.

Hemi: you are a brave man to take the BT on Lake 'o Woods. Ya, I think it is rated for 40 hp. I wondered about sticking a 40 on it too, but there doesn't seem to be much clearance from the water surface to the transom "slot". You know how loud that Merc gets with the 25 hp so close to the console...it would be nice to have a four stroke, but again the weight issue might come into play. Been a good "small" boat though. I just have to add a Tyee to the collection! smirk.gif
