Once again, The Nats snatch defeat from the Jaws of Victory!

Recommended Posts

You have got to love it! Just when the Nats think they can play small ball and win with pitching, the American League takes the all time high percentage closer and shows him...

WHO'S YOUR DADDY, Trevor! And I have to get the plug in for the only player on the AL who was a perfect 2 for 2 and got the single that led to the NL demise...The One...The Only...

PAU-LIE PAU-LIE from my beloved Pale Hose. Looks like Ozzie is a genius, and he even held AJ out of the game, which should make a few of you out there happy. I think he should have pinch hit AJ for Mauer at the end of the game when Mauer struck out, but hey, that's me. Also, I might have brought in Big Bad Bobby Jenks to close the game. It would have been one, two, three and lights out. But hey, Rivera made it interesting. I guess I can be happy as my beloved Pale Hose will have home field advantage once again through the playoffs.

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES! Windy

jenks woulda choked! blush.gif Riveria was the right choice to finish it off. Looks like not everyone got to play. But we the AL get the home field adv in the world series. Good Luck to rest of the year. I think the twinkies will get with in 3 games behind the div leader by the end of august.

Gotta hand it to Guillen-- He actually played to WIN it by bringing in Rivera to close it out. Even the error didn't rattle him. The TWINS or TIGERS will thank him come october for sure.

Gloat all you want, but when you get the first two guys out in the ninth and have Young behind 0-2 and throw him one over the middle of the plate you deserve to lose. I hate closers.

FYI, Mauer didn't strike out in his last at bat. He ripped a shot right off of Hoffmans arm or shoulder (may have been his body, I never saw a replay). You can say Rivera made it interesting all you want, but without the error on the 3rd baseman, it would have been 1-2-3 in the 9th.

Common Windy, if your going to be my running mate, you need to get the facts str8. grin.gif Mauer lined a shot right at Hoffman and Hoffman looked lost trying to find the ball. Congrats to the AL, would have liked to see Liriano strike out the side, but I guess we'll all have to wait til next year to see that.

I think you got it backwards windy...if AJ would have pinch hit for Mauer...AJ would have struck out....But Mauer hit a frozen rope right back up the middle and the pitcher just haapend to be in the way. Ozzie was thinking smartly on playing Mauer..and Sitting AJ...AJ only wishes he was as good as Mauer..If Aj could just knock that chip off of his shoulder i would start respecting him more....Or wait did Barret already try doing that??!! blush.gifgrin.gif

From ESPN today:

All Konerko did was thunk a fastball on the hands toward third base. All he did was hit what felt like a routine "5-3" putout in your program. When the ball left his bat, in fact, Konerko thought: Game over.

But then he looked up to see the third baseman, Miguel Cabrera, guarding the line. And the baseball hopped on through the left side.

It would turn into one of the most important hits of Konerko's career. But all it really was, he'd say later, "was just luck."

----------------------

Also you cant put too much emphasis on Mauer striking out, up until that point I think there were only 4 hits for the entire AL team total. Jeter struck out TWICE , Ichiro struck out, Ortiz struck out, these are probably 3 of the better hitters of the game, and Jeter has the highest batting avg. ever of any player in the allstar game. Strike outs happen, not a big deal.

Sorry for the confusion in words Buzz, I was refering to the 8th inning when Mauer struck out. I would have like to see AJ in the game then! But I am just a tad biased. Anyway, I guess you have to define what the word is, is (wait, that was the donkey president) NEVER MIND. Windy
