I dont know if you can have to many unless you dont use them.I have

4-cat rods

2-muskie rods

3-eye rods

4-panfish rods

3-northern rods

3-misc rods

12-ice rods

1-cane pole

Every one gets used, but some only a few times a year.Always looking for another.I have three reels without a rod. They are lonely.

Wow you need that many rods to catch fish???? I've got one and it catches fish 99% of the time......my $25 rod to your 10-30 $300 rods........doesn't make much sense to me......

I have 28 baitcasting rods, 31 spinning rods, and 18 ice rods. I am Pro-Staff for custom rod maker so he sends me 8-10 rods a year to test out. My problem is that I put new reels on all of them too. When I bought my bass boat the number one thing I looked for was rods storage. In last night's tournament I had 32 rods along....but I caught every bass on the same Senko rod crazy.gif My wife always thought I was crazy, but she has been pre-fishing tournaments with me this year and she now sees when I have a dozen rods out at the same time trying to figure out patterns and colors etc... During a tournament I try to keep it down to 3-4 on the deck at one time.

Slipperyrod

Extra poles are needed for different species. Its hard to catch a 50 inch sturgeon on a eye or panfish pole.Same with using a x-tra heavy slimer rod for those xtra sensitive eyes or crappies.I would also hate to try and land a 40# muskie on a ML rod.A rod for every specie is very nice yet somewhat costly.

Its a lot like golf. You need a different club for each situation on the golf course.

Maybe they need to start selling "sets" of fishing rods, complete with a golf bag, err... boat w/ big rod locker. grin.gif

For as much as I fish, I don't have a great variety of rods. I've got my ice rods, which number about 6 I believe. Although I will probably bump that to 10 this winter. I fell in love with those St. Croix spring bobber rods and need a few more along with some more Thorne rods.

Also have 5 catfish rods that see continuous duty now as well. Although I just got another 6500C3 Abu & should have a couple more 7000C3s coming that are going to need a home. I could be up to 8 cat rods by the end of summer if this continues.

As long as the manufacture's keep comming out with new rods and improved reels can any one who fishes on a regular basis have enough rods? Break a tip one time on a hot walleye bite and you're in someone else's boat with only one rod along and you will never think that only one rod is enough. My Ex used to ask me that very question don't you think you have enough fishing rod's? I Said no and traded her in on a 7'10" baitcasting rod and Diawa line counter reel:) Girl friend doesn't ask me that question!!!!

(I have 8 for myself and 3 i let the GF use.) Also works if you tell her you bought it for her to use when she is along!!!!!!
:)

My wife thinks three rods is overkill and I can't find anyone that will take her as a trade in on the fourth. Some friendly advice was to trade her for a mule and shoot the mule and my troubles would be over. Can't find a trade there either. grin.gifwink.gif Just kiddin. I have so many rods that she says she could have a two day garage sale just for fishing rods. blush.gifgrin.gif

I might as well add mine up.

2 Musky

1 UL panfish

5 walleye

5 bass

20 or 30 ice fishing rods (I only use 5 or 6)

15 or so tipups.

My wife golfs so when she asks me why I need so many rods and reels (not that I have a lot comapred to some of you guys) I just tell her that she wouldn't putt with a driver... conversation ends.

Oh lets see how many is too many there is such a thing.

I have for one the ice I have

For on the ice

11 walleyes rods most of these are Thorne Bros(7) since they are the best.

3 panfish

2 heavier fish like pike and lakers

For open water

2 walleye jigging rods

2 walleye rigging rods

2 lead core rods

2 rods for cranks

1 pike rod

1 rod for sturgeon

1 ultra light

and a couple cheap ones for when there are little ones coming out fishing with me.

I guess I must do more ice fishing than open water fishing based on the number of my rods.

So I guess I have 29 that I used depending on the season.

My theory with rods is that "If I buy it, it needs to be used. Otherwise it didn't need to be bought."

When I bass fish, I think I bring along 4 baitcasting combos and 3 spin combo's- each with something different spooled up so I can just grab and cast.

When I'm walleye fishing, I have 1 rod specific for walleye fishing and then take a rod from the bass collection and rig it up.

I have 1 heavy rod for muskie and several other rods for panfishing.

Ice fishing, I think I'm right around 10 rods, though I probably use 1/2 of those. The 1/2 I use are all Thorne Bros rods grin.gif

I never counted and not sure if I want to. I would say 10 -12 for ice fishing and maybe 20 for open water. When the wife sees a new rod she will "say when did you get that one". But she really doesn't care.
