Problems with Lorance 334c fixed?

Sutty

Question

I have read about the problems with the 334c (and was planning on getting one) have they fixed the issue? I have read some reports that they fixed the bug and some that they have not. I would like to be able to move the unit between my boat in the summer and 4 wheeler in the winter otherwise I'd just get the 332.

Oh and I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this so my appologies if it isn't...

Thanks,

Sutty

Ive got a Globalmap 3600 I GPS which is the same as the 334 minus the sonar. It loses position a few times a day. I called Lowrance today and they said there is a hardware change and that I could send mine in for replacement.

How to tell which serial #s have the new hardware is the problem. Call 1-800-324-1356 extension 8536. It is Patty, but don't tell her how you got her #. She's great!

I have just spent two weeks on Lake Vermilion with my new 334C and it worked like a champ. Only lost fix a couple of times and they were immediately after first acquiring.

"The 334C has been one problem after another. I would call Lowrance, tell them you want a 332C in exchange and be done with it. Just remember guys, if you change to a 332C you'll need to connect that second set of power wires that you probably don't have connected on the 334C. The second set runs the external GPS module. The 332C has been a great unit."

That's a direct quote from a person who sell's 100's of Lowrance unit's.

The best thing I did this year was to have Lowarance swap out my 334c for a 332c. There is no comparison between the two units for satellite aquisition and hold.

After my experience with the 334c, I would feel queezy if my gps lost reception more than once or twice. Knowing the 334c, there was always a chance it would not reaquire the satellite if lost period. I hated those "minutes" of waiting to see if it would reaquire that satellite.

I can say that I have not noticed the 332c losing aquisition the entire summer. It may have happened, but if so, it reaquired it before I noticed.

The 334c left me very bitter.

If your 334 is not picking up the signal they way it is supposed to you can probably update the software and be alot better. You can check the software on the unit if you have version 1.0 that is the old version and should be updated, which can be sent over the internet or through lowrance. If you have 1.3, that is the newer version and if you are having troubles, then it maybe the receiver and you should replace the unit.

I will cost you some money or down time to update the soft ware.Either need a sd card to down load or send back the unit to have lowrance do it.The soft ware up date does not mention anything about increasing the performance of the sattelite lock up.Let me know if if thinking wrong.Thanks,Burl.

I work at Gander Mountain and have experienced the software update myself (using the SD card to download). We had lowrance send us the update. We have had customers come in with their 334s not working and then updated the software and they start working. I would guess that it is a software issue, as 95% of the problems with the 334 have been.
