harvey lee
Who thinks with his victory this past weekend that he will now make a run to the top starting this weekend at Daytona?I would guess that he will be one tough guy to race with the remainder of the year. This week will be tough to figure out who will make the last 2 lap passes,or will it end under caution? Eric Wettschreck
It will end under caution. Seems like over half the plate races end under caution.
lawdog
They needed a break to get the bad luck monkey off their back that's for sure. There is no better medicine than a race win, and if Michigan was an indication of them having fixed their intermediate track car woes, then look out... With momemtum and good cars they should scare a lot of teams!
eyepatrol
It'll be interesting to see what happens this weekend. The big thing is to stay clean, and if he can do that, I'd suspect he'll finish in the top 5. I haven't seen a number of races this year, but from what I could tell, Gordon has been running well at the tracks, including the intermediate ones. He's just had some back luck....either crashes or mechanical failures. Get rid of those, and he's probably comfortably in the top 10, maybe top 5.....but then again, get rid of the back luck for a lot of teams and where would they be standing... NAPAFISH
I have never seen a driver with almost two years of bad luck. Poor guy Face it guys, in the Hendrick stable all the money goes to the #48. No wonder Brian is leaving. When you look at the pecking order, he would have never of risen any higher

harvey lee
I'am not a Gordon fan but you have to respect him as he is a awesome racer,in anyones book.I really believe that he has had some bad luck and yes maybe some of the fire is gone. My question to anyone that might not think he is awesome is 1-short tracks 2-intermedite trackes 3-plate tracks 4-road course How many others have had the success at all these different style tracks and also have the number of wins or championships? Close to no-one. But,if he decides to crank it up a notch,Hendrick cars WILL run to the top.You can never count ol Gordo out.never. Any driver in a cup car today could only wish that they could be as good as he is.Very few will ever exceed the results or enjoy the career that he has had. As stated above,Iam not a Gordon fan,but how can one not respect his stats?
walleyeaddict
gordon WILL flop and not make the chase..if there is a god!!!
lawdog
HarveyLee, as a Gordon fan, I appreciate that you can see that but you need to know that I've asked that same question numerous times and you won't get any answers from the haters. If you do get one, they'll try the weak and tired "it was all Everenham", ignoring the fact that he's won races with four different crew chiefs (Ray, Brian Whitesell who was interim before Loomis, Loomis and now LeTarte) and already won championships with two (Ray and Loomis). None of them also will admit the same could be said about Stewart who's never won a cup race without Zippy either...they think it only applies to Jeff. Regardless, when he is said and done, between the records he already has and those he's yet to set, he belongs right up there with the all time greats of the sport. JohnMickish
I'm not a big fan of Gordon either (he kept taking the championships from Martin ) but I have to respect him as a driver too. I have to say that Gordon is the best driver to drive a stock car from 1990-present.
harvey lee
You dont have to like him but you have to respect his record.
Sifty
I think one thing that will shake up the NASCAR world is when he gets win number 75.To alot of people out there, there is one god in NASCAR and he drove a black #3.
harvey lee
Sifty you are so right about Gordon.Earnhardt was a great driver and did very well.I loved to watch him race and cheered very hard for him. There are drivers in Nascar today that have similar driving styles today and if they do the same thing the ole #3 did then they are a hack. One might think that I'm a Gordon fan and im not.But putting that aside,he is a darn good driver and has many wins left in him.I believe I dont care for him as I like to cheer for Jr and Gordon usually outruns him at most tracks. When Gordon beats the guy you like then one decides that Gordon is no good to make his driver look better. I think its hard to compare Gordon to Earnhardt because they both raced in different era's.I believe in any race today there are at least 10 drivers every race that could win on any given day. I also have a hard time believing that any driver today will match Gordons record as of this date.He WILL go out as one of the best ever, like him or not. There are alot of race fans that dont care for Gordon, just like the #3.They either love him or hate him. Seems to me that when you get that good, many fans just want to see you lose.It happens at any track anywhere. You win to much and you are the enemy. Lawdog, you are correct as I know you have been saying this for a long time,as I am now just starting to admit it. All done with the Gordon boosting now. jbell1981
From what I have seen on Nascar message board, friends, family and other places that a lot of long time #3 fans are #24 haters. I think that the major reason for this is that Gordon is putting some of Earnhardts records in jepordy and they don't want to see that. I myself am a #3 fan and a #24 fan. I really got into racing only a couple years before Sr. died. So I think that since I didn't follow Sr. during his prime in the 80's and 90's it was not an issue for me. I like watching Nascar and there is only a handfull of drivers that I do not like to see win. With that said my favorite Drivers are the 8, 24 & 20 whcih may seem like an oxy-moron to some. It seems that most 8 fans are not fans of the 24 and vice-versa.
Sifty
I think that is one of the GREAT things about NASCAR you can be a fan of a number of drivers. There are people that like to stay with a manufactur but most are all over the board.I will not compare Gordon and Sr. They where two total different guy's. I think that there are a few times when the two did'nt see eye to eye. I also think that Sr. told Gordon if the boo's are louder then the cheer's you are doing somthing right. That said I do think that the 24 will go down as one of NASCAR'S greats.Sifty
harvey lee
Correct Sifty. If any good racer is getting boo'ed alot, that usually means he's winning alot. They always want to see a winner get beat by anyone. I can remember back 30 years ago when I started going to and watching races alot, that whoever was always winning he was cheered against hard except for his loyal fans. The guy would have a accident or brake and the majority of the fans in the grandstands would cheer. Worst Kid
Jeff Gordon is going to win the championship this year. Hes going to stop rolling over for his team mate Jimmie Johnson and start winning for his new fiance.
jbtwins24
im a gordon fan and i honestly dont think he will win the championship as a driver this year, i would love to see him win one but its not going to happen. i can see johnson winning the championship this year. it would be just as awsome since gordon owns a part of the 48 car. how many other drivers out there can say i won the championship as a driver 4 times and won the championship as a owner?? the list is real small.
