lac seul techniques

Recommended Posts

heading up to lac seul on july 15th for 4 days. staying next to ear falls.I was talking to a guy from reeds the other day and he told me that a jighead and a minnow is the only way to go.I asked him about crankbaits and he told me that I wouldn't catch as many and would probably loose every crank in the box do to the rocks and what not. I guess I'm just looking for more advise from some of you that know the lake well as I am but a greenhorn? thanks

I am heading there the end of July and I am planning one mainly just having jigs. They guys I know that has been up there before said to just bring allot of jigs because you will loose alot. They just drift fish and jig he said. I will have other stuff along but the main thing will be jigs. I am making around 600 jigs for my group that is going hope it is enough grin.gifgrin.gif. The other thing he said was to have them in bright colors. I am bringing pink, white, chartruse yellow and green and glow.

Just returned from my seventh annual trip up there. The tackle I bring with me includes 2 rods and a small plastic box filled with about 4 to 6 dozen 1/4oz. jigs. That's it! In four days of fishing we'll typically boat well over 200 walleyes per person.

The last 2 years in late June, we have used mainly jig and minnow 95% of the time. However I'm sure rigging with a leach or crawler would work fine. This year I'm planning on doing some trolling with crank baits just to do something a little different. We're also going to spend more time on Musky.

I have made 6 trips to Lac Suel. We leave on the 1st for 4 days. Jigs are effective if you know where the fish are or they are shallow. For us bottom bouncers with spinners and minnows have been deadly. I ave 50+ a day myself when the fishing is good. You can find fish with the bouncers and try jigging but sometimes its the speed and flash thats the trigger. Good Luck

I have fished LS about 10 times and jigs (minnows, crawlers, leeches) are #1, also spinners do good to on flats-have caught many this way. I also bring a heavy rod to throw a bucktail or super shad rap at the northerns/musky that hit the walleyes that you are reeling in. We haven't given crankbaits a fair shot to give a good assessment. Don't foget to bring an assortment of plastics. Give some a shot and you might be suprised. we are heading up next week, can't wait.

Ozzie -

We just stay at a hotel in Sioux Lookout and put in at deception bay and fish the east/northeast side. We boat about an hour up the lake each day. By the end of the week it only costs us about $250/300 each. Cheap and that way we can convince the wives to let us go more thatn once per summer. We have also used sioux lookout floating lodges out of Hudson and Ojibway outfitters. We look for new spots every time and fish the old honey holes and catch a ton of fish. We have had family fish over by Makwa and they raved about it, good luck!!

Rigging is good but there are way to many snags up there! We just got a report from up there about 5 days a go and the water is high and the big fish are every where! We leave on june 22nd for a 7 day trip i'm already tossing n turning in my sleep thinkin a bout! i guess i'll see a few of u guys up there next week. good luck everyone! i post some pictures when i get back

Does anyone have any info on sioux lookout floating lodges? We're staying there later this month and wondering what to expect. This will be our first trip to Canada that's not a fly in. Should we expect to see plenty of boats on lac seul ? Thanks for any info in advance and some fishing tips or locations would be greatly appreciated as well.
