Shimano Symetre Problems..

Lately this reel has been acting up. When I get snagged up and I "pop" the rod to try and get out of the snag, the anti reverse completely fails. It spins backwords (fast) and creates a huge mess with my line. It's almost like it goes into the "backreel" mode.

Has anyone had this happen? Any idea how it can be fixed?

How old is the reel?... If its under warrenty(less than one year old) then send it in to be replaced. It sounds like you broke the anti reverse.

contact Shimano. I had a part break on a Shimano reel that was several years old and they sent me replacement parts free of charge.

The reel is around 4 years old. So I highly doubt I'll get any warrenty work done on it. I may just give them a buzz and see if they can diagnose and send me the part. Thanks Fellas.

I have one that did pretty much the same thing. It's in the shop now, has been for about a month. They said the clutch assembly needs to be replaced & they're waiting for the parts. I should have taken it back in last summer after they worked on it & thought they had it corrected. They said at the time they weren't sure. I never got around to it, as I didn't really need it that bad.

How do you guys like your symetre's? I've got 2 of the 2000's. I've had them for 6 or so years. I just bought the quantum pti energy. That thing rocks. Huge difference between that and the symetre's.

are using fireline or some thing like it? the fire line will slip on the spool. if so you will need to take your line off and back it with 10 yards of mono, then tie the fireline to it. you would then be good to go. Mike

I have three, and have never had any problems. 2 are 2 years old and the one I still use the most is 6. Absolutely love them.

i have two that are 10 + yrs. old. they haven't missed a beat yet!

Mine is probably 9 or 10, it was used a lot summer & winter at one time, not so much the last few years. I spend a lot of time lindy rigging with my baitcaster.

Check out their HSOforum and go to the schematics and you should be able to find the part you are looking for, should also help if you take it apart yourself and I think you can order parts from them if you wish. I downloaded the one for the sy4000fh model, not sure which one you had, and it looks like it could be that the anti reverse cam could be worn down. Good luck
