Question

This weekend when I got my boat out of storage, I got a surprise!!! cat hair everywhere, the farm I had stored it at, had cats that made a home for the winter in my boat. It is a carpeted floor and the sides are also carpeted.I need an idea for the best way to remove the hair from the carpet, vaccuming does not work, the hair sticks like glue.

Any ideas?

Thanks

This will be a pain in the behind, but I think it would work... Wrap duct tape around your hand with the sticky side out. Then go ahead and pat the carpet down. I think the hair should stick. Might take a few hours though confused.gif

Duct tape worked for me very well. It was a pain but the wife helped and we made pretty short work of it. Looked almost new when I was done. My yellow lab fishes with me which really showed on my blue carpet. Not only did I get the dog hair out, but also a lot of fine sand. You need something really tacky.

snowman: My wife uses a special sponge type of block to remove animal hair from our furniture. She is sleeping right now but I'll post again in the morning with the name and where to get it. Darn thing works really well.

From experience, I agree with jbell and powerstroke.

I have used the larger lint roller in a suburban I had a few months ago. My brother had a yellow lab and dog hair everywhere. The lint roller worked very well. I do not doubt that the duct tape would work, but, for the ease of use on the roller is hands down, roll it around, peel off dirty layer and you are good to go. Plus it has a handle.

Not sure about wallyworld, but I know that Target sells 8"-12" long rollers that would probably make short work of the hair. While there, you may want to pick up an extra roll, just in case!

Another idea is to use a rolling pin used for baking and wrap several pieces of duct tape around it. It would be cheaper then the lint roller and Red Green would be proud! grin.gif

Thanks for the input on how to get rid of the hair, does anyone have an idea how to also get rid of the smell (it's like they used it for a litter box) Febreze won't even help a little. Does anyone know how to get rid of the cat urine smell?

For the urine smell, there is a product you can get from your vet called skunk off, or, there is a neutralyzer that you can get at pet supply store.

FYI: walgreens has a lint roller you can look it up on their HSOforum. here is a brief description.

This model is $3.99

60 Layers.

Total: 30.5 ft x 4 in.

Zip-Strip Technology.

37% Stickier than the leading competitor!

Check the thread called "coon needs a home" in the open water thread area (I thinks on the second page now). There are some tips there for the smell. I think my friend uses something called Natures Way or something like that and he buys it at the local pet store. I am sure pet smart of some place like that will have several options to try.

Oh, and don't bring you boat back there again. I guess the flip side is that you didn't have any mice damage over the winter grin.gif Not sure which is better to clean up from.

Good Luck.
