17 HMR is a tack driver!

Recommended Posts

sweet! nice group! been battin the idea around about getting a 17HMR. My father in law is the market for one also. Local gun club puts on rimfire shoots once or twice a month. Looks like fun. Shot my buddy's 17HMR and after shooting that makes me want one. See what happens. Shoot safe

Several people have commented on the 'nice group' but every time I look at this nice group - and I will concede that they're close together - I think that it would be a nice group if it was in the black circle. If you were shooting at a squirrels head, you'd be real close to missing....

I sighted it in 1 in. high at 100 because im going to shoot prairie dogs with it this July. So it should be right on at 150 for those longer shots. Any thing farther than that ill use my .223. I just picked up my stevens model 200 about a week ago. I going to get a simmons 44 mag 6.5-20x44 scope. Im going with a friend to there house in North Dakota. What will I need for shooting prairie dogs? So far I am bringing My .223,17hmr., 240 rounds of ammo, bipod,Gun cleaning stuff. grin.gif I cant wait!

What would be a better scope the Simmons 44 mag.6.5-20x44 for 99$ or the Simmons prairie master 6-24x50 for 79$. Would a 8-32x44 scope be over kill? I am going to shoot American Eagle 50 gr. hp. will they work for exploding a p-dog? Im also going to bring 2 boxes of hornadys 40 gr. v-max's. Were going for 6 days I think and 1 day were fishing in a walleye cup. grin.gif

Im leaving the 3-9 on the 17. Im going to get a new scope for the .223. But with the scope I got on the 17 now at 100 yards the cross hairs completely take up the target. I was shooting pop cans filled with water at 150 yards last night. I went 3/3 those prairie dogs are in serious trouble! grin.gif
