Lowrance LCX 20c or LMS 334c - same price - which one?

rascalP

Question

Alright, price being equal, which unit to buy? Looks to me like the LMS334 is still the way to go because of the higher pixel resolution, though the LCX 20 has a slightly bigger screen (wider). Am I right? What are your thoughts?

I've seen price drops on the LCX 20 lately, down to $649 at Cabelas, I think.

Thanks

rascal

I snapped up one of the 20's last weekend at cabelas. I had really been looking at the 334 to but I know I will be running a the screen split gps/sonar often and the little bigger screen was a deciding factor for me. I know that some say pixels are more important that sceen size but for me it was the over all screen size for me. The dual chip slots is nice too. It would be nice to have the receiver built right in to expecially if you want to use it ice fishing. Ram makes a awesome mount though that can hold the receivor and unit all in one.

After reading some of the post here about the boat show in MPLS I found out that Reeds was selling the 332C for $580 (regular price is $650) and also gave a free lakemaster promaps MN chip for free (another $100 off). Reeds also has free shipping. The package deal is actually below their cost and I will be shopping with them more often because of it. The internal antenna in the 334 wasn't important to me so I went with the 332 and have been very happy. I mounted the depthfinder right next to my dash, since it's so close I don't need a larger screen. If your viewing distance is longer then I would suggest getting a larger screen. Also, remember that you can customize about any screen with the lowrance product. I can change the screen size, making the gps portion 3/4 of the display and the depth about 1/4 of the display when running on split screen. Most of the time I have it on GPS with custom guages. I've put the depth in a large box and set up other important information such as voltage, temp, speed, etc to be displayed on my screen. I'm not really concerned about the seeing the bottom when I'm running across the lakes. The higher resolution makes a big difference when fishing weedy lakes. The LCX 20 will blob out fish in the weeds while the higher resolution unit will pick them out better and seperate the colors better between shallow structure and fish. The X-26HD is the best but it was out of my price range.

Both Scheels and Gander have the single freq., with GPS, LCX 25's for $995.00. If you could get more then the 20 degree transducer for them (say 60/20) without changing the freq. I'd snap one up. Since they don't I'm really thinking about a Hummingbird 777 series and just using my H20 and older Lowrance plotter. More than likely I'll just wait til next year again or if I sell someting I may just go with the Hummingbird side finder smirk.gif.

The deal I mentioned was not on their HSOforum or anything, it was just a boat show special. Call reeds in walker and and talk to one of the fishing managers or Jeff Arnold and see if he will still match the deal. It was over a month ago so they may not do it. If you do a websearch on reeds sports you should find the location and contact info.

IFFWalleyes,

Did the 20 you got from Cabelas come with the reciever?

Did the ram mount come from Cabelas too?

Yes sir everything came from cabelas. The ram mount was an extra but I would have bought the same mount if I got the 332 or 334. It was a tough deal to pass up regularly $999 marked down to $634.99. I don't have a great distance to the dash but in my opinion on rough water that screen can seem pretty small.

Good luck with your decision both are awesome units.
