Rost
We have walleyes, northerns, and carp runnning up the creek to spawn at the Lake Madison inlet. On any givin day you'll find bow fisherman shooting carp. I guess I just assumed that people can tell the difference between a carp/sucker and a walleye. mtreno
what about whats under the carp - i have gotten two before
Rost
Wow! Maybe stick your head in the water and look to see what's under the carp before you spear it. Okay, MN can go ahead and ban the practice if they wish for a few months in the spring. However, I still think the law that requires you to case your bow is silly. But that's a completely different topic.
mtreno
whats the bow case rule? think i may have broken that one a few times if it is what i think it is...... i just hate putting my fishing bow in my good case - even more so i really dont like having my case in the boat. man i know where this is heading and i am wrong - devestating
Rost
Never thought of it that way. Do you have to have your firearms cased while in a boat while heading to your spot in MN?
mtreno
when motor is running, yes, all guns must be unloaded and cased.

Scenic
Well unless I missed something it clearly indicated that spearing is closed until May 1st, 2006 (page 58 of 2006-2007 regs.). I did not find any where in the rough fish section indicating that it opened on any other dates. So if there is something in the books that indicates it does then please let us know. ASMOLEY
Some of my favorite quotes that can be related to this topic. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it make a noise? It’s not illegal if you don’t get caught. The answer is yes it makes a noise, and yes it’s illegal but your either good or lucky. Sorry for the confusion i was looking under the Wisconsion border not inland waters. I which case it is the 29th but you are correct it's the 1st for inland waters.
Gus
Rost, you may want to verify that uncased gun part with a local CO or sherrif. I am under the impression that the unloaded/cased gun thing in a motorized vehicle is a federal law not a state law or game law. At least that is what I was told by a CO a few years back in a conversation.

riverrat56
I don't know about in any motorized vehical, I'm almost positive in South Dakota you may have your gun uncased and shells in the magazine just no shells in the chamber. In a boat I would not doubt it as most waterfowl regulations are federally set. WigglinMyWorm
Same in North dakota.........guns uncased hanging in the gun racks in the back window of the pickup......guns loaded just not a shell in chamber
Rost
Yes, you may have an uncased gun in your vehicle. It's even legal to shoot out your window in certain situations (coyotes, skunks, coons etc..)!!Sorry guys, I didn't mean to offend anyone with my MN comment earlier in this topic. Just so you know, I grew up in MN and still love to go back and visit!
