Me and my buddy got a limit of 10 but it was a hard bite. Got one real nice 16 inch brown, the rest were 10-12 inch, few small brookies. All the fish were plum full of bugs and worms when i cleaned them, which I'm sure accounted for the tough bite. shocked.gif

Did real well on the Vermillion River Saturday AM. Nothing from 7am to 9am then BAM! first fish of the day. A 24+ inch brown. After about a 5 minute fight, I thought the brute was tired out enough to get a picture of it. so I pulled it up part way on shore and while fumbling (actually trembling) for the camera, it did another dance and off it went before I could snap a picture. During the next three hours I landed 7 more trout between 15 and 18 inches.

My new weapon in my trout catching arsenal is a X-Rap. It has wonderful action and is buoyant (like a Husky Jerk). It was awsome seeing the fish chase it out of the faster moving water and then stopping the lure with it staying in the fish zone. Many times they would take 2-3 runs at it before they would get hooked. It think it's my new go-to lure.

All-In-All it was a great day. No pictures but some good memories.

Trout are a great fighting fish and mighty fun to catch, but they are also good eat! I really like bringing some home for the grill after a long day in bluff country. all catch and release streams are for the birds.

TRZ,

I agree that trout are fun to catch and great to eat. Nothing wrong with that. I have a few in the freezer myself and can't wait to grill them up. However, I don't see catch and release as a waste of time. I like the way the DNR manages the streams. Some are heavily stocked and managed more as a put and take fishery, while others are managed to maintain the quality of the fishery by implementing slot limits and catch and release restrictions. Something for everyone. Once you have your 5 trout, all streams in MN become catch and release until you reduce your possession. That would make for a great time to hit some catch and release only streams that you normally wouldn't fish. You may not be able to eat them, but you can still enjoy the catching.
