Most guys don't use backing at all. If you have 100 yards of lead you should be able to get down approximately 50 feet. I don't think you need any backing at all unless you plan on fishing over 50 feet deep. Just tie direct and spool it up. You will want an approximately 25 foot leader to tie your lure to.

Leadcore takes up alot of room on a reel.Spooled up an older garcia last year and had a hard time getting more than seven colors plus the leader on the reel.Should not need any backing at all.Burl.

I dont use any backer either.I run ten colors on sealine 47s,it just fits .As far as leader goes it depends where you are fishing with it.I use about 15ft,thats enough to keep my two way swivel from going onto my spool.Thats a good length for water that isnt super clear.

No Backing?

Hmm...Depending on where you will be fishing and whether you'll ever be on the Great Lakes I would recommend backing if it will fit on your reel. Twice last year we were down to two wraps on our backing with 18-20# Kings on the other end. As a safety for a potential wall hanger, it may be a good idea to put some on. I would reccomend 75-100 feet of 50# Power Pro. Thats what I have on mine. Like said before though its all in what your usage will be.

Most guys are using 18 pound test leadcore for walleyes. I've had some guys that have more experience that I do on leadcore say that 18 pound is the best combination of strength and the right diameter to get down deep enough (5 feet per color that is).
