SDPROV
Does anyone have a picture of this lure? Do they even make it anymore? My grandpa talked about using this lure for walleyes and loving it. I wanted to get one or even see a picture of one. Thanks
tunrevir
I believe that the lure you are looking for resembles a hot-n-tot but has a longer body and a bit more length. It has a metal diving lip like the hot-n-tot and tapers more towards the tail then a hot-n-tot. Very similar lure but they had a bit more wild/lavish paint jobs back then. You could google it or better yet go onto the National fishing lures collector club and nose around. I'd bet you could get one there and maybe even see some pics of it. Hope this helps! Tunrevir~ P.S. I thought about it, and if you try and google that you might not get the images you had intended!

uffdapete
That sounds like something the late Gerhart Block from Ortonville, MN used to use in the fall night fishing for walleyes back in the 60's on Big Stone Lake. Anyone else remember the monster walleyes he used to catch?? I remember him catching limits averaging 9-9 1/2 lbs. and hellcats seem to ring a bell. cold one sd
They were kind of long and thin like a Rapala Countdown. They were also a shallow diving plug and sold in the 60s. I may still have one around somewhere. The yellow plug in the box on the post above is a Hellbender and I have a few of those and still use them. Hellcats were the hot lure in their day and then along came the Sonics and others.
danlk
The hellcat was made by smithwick. it was a minnow bait almost like a floating husky rap hell oF a bait on planer boards ithink they quit making them in the 80s daNg good bait wish they still made them. Tyler Holm
Funny. My grandpa's largest walleye (10lbs) was caught on a strawberry blond floating rapala. I guess that was the color back then. I bet I've heard that story 50 times

uffdapete
Ortonville - I grew up in Graceville (1958-72) and remember seeing pictures of him in the paper with some monster stringers. Then I had the opportunity to fish from shore along side him for crappies at the foot of Big Stone late one November. That was the best crappie fishing I'd had to that point in terms of size. I caught a limit (which if memory is correct was 25 or 30) in about 4 hours that averaged 1 lb. each. He caught about 5x as many in the same time. As a teenager I was in awe that we were using was basically identical as far as line, rod action, jigs and minnows and he just took me to school! nytelyter
its kinda funny this very lure was brought up by me in the "whats your favorite lure" post a few months back. i actually have two of these in my tackle box. one of which i use every fall, shore fishing for the piggies. they are not what dtro has posted either. however i do not remember having the "blond" in the name so that is where the difference may lie. the ones i have are a repala style floater with moulded scales and airbrushed black red yellow and white. i dont have a digital camera. so i cannot post a pic, sorry. i bought six of them when i found them at ROY'S bait shop many years ago. i was told the colors were chosen for northern lakes specifically. i have not found any since i picked up what i have and have lost. i can tell you that three of them were lost in lake waconia. and tonka owns the other. the one that i use most often is a 6" and it is quite chewed up. i think i will hang the other on the wall. ... paul
