Hey Dudes,

Well since Culpepper is gone and we are going to go with

Brad Johnson at Quarterback. Who will be the teams QB of the

future. Are they going to make a pitch for Leinert or the

other QBs what do you guys think.

I would like to see them put the #1 and 2 #2's together and try to make a move at a QB Think Brad would be a good QB for someone to sit and watch for a year. Specially since it will be the west coast offense for the next year. But I am sure there is a great master plan in place and us lowly fans will just have to wait and see what happens.

I am not on board with the idea that the Vikings should trade a bunch of draft picks in order to get Leinart, Young or Cutler, even if such a deal were likely. (I don't believe it is.) It is better, IMO, to build a team around a strong cast of role players than to build around one superstar. The Patriots have won three Super Bowls with the team mentality. I am a little surprised that Viking fans don't remember the last time Minnesota traded a bunch of draft picks for one high impact player--how did that whole Herschel Walker deal work out for us, anyway? crazy.gif

I also think the discussions about DC's Pro Bowl seasons and stats are irrelevant, because the only stats that matter are the win/loss record, and the number of Super Bowl victories a player has in his career. Culpepper had zero Super Bowl appearances and a losing career record, which to me is more important than how many Pro Bowl appearances he or Moss had, or how many TDs he or Moss was responsible for. Ask a Colts fan if they consider gaudy regular season QB stats and lots of offense the benchmark of success.

I have read a few rumors that the Vikes may have a interest in Joey Harrington. I don't know if this is a good idea. Maybe with Childress being a QB guru of sorts, he might be ableto do something with him, heck maybe bring him in as a back up plan. I saw 1 mock draft today that had Culter slipping through the cracks down to us at 17, but he would have to slip alot. I saw a bunch of mocks that still had us taking a RB at 17. So who knows! At this point we are still waiting on the Hutch deal!

No, no, no...not Joey Blueskies, as one Detroit sports talk radio station called Harrington. Granted, his horrible record as a starter (18-37) and his numerous interceptions may not have been all his fault. The Lions organization is a mess from top on down, and Harrington did not have good people on the field with him, nor did he have a good coaching staff running him. You could ask BackHerUp, if he ever came out from his bunker. laugh.gif

Still, no one forced Harrington to make the awful on-field decisions he was known for, and his own team-mates had no confidence in his leadership skills, which are not something that can be coached. Maybe with some time to develop in the right system Harrington can be a capable backup, or even a starter on a defensive-minded team.

I do not want to see Joey Blueskies one sack away from the Vikings starting job, though, as I do not believe he is up to the task. All of us who were tired of DC's fumblitis would be driven insane by Harrington's regular boneheaded play. He may be a capable journeyman some day, but Harrington is not someone to build an offense around, IMO, nor will he ever be.

I think the Vikes are making some moves, without breaking the bank, by signing the overrated ,past their prime players. That sounds good to me. The two (or 3) keys will be if they play well together, if the coaches actually have a good system, and of course the draft to come. (no Demetrius Underwoods this time please) I'm thinking they will be looking to draft defense (linebacker?) or perhaps a Randall Ells type player if one is available this year. One thing is FOR CERTAIN- it will be a different team in 2006! I'm all for that. The first 5-6 games last year were a major embarassment to the profession as well as fans. frown.gif

As far as free agents they really haven't gotten to many "past their prime" guys. Richardson is the oldest with 11 years in the league, and Whittle has 8 years in. I'll post who wehave picked up and you can see what you think.

Steve Hutchinson OG UFA 6-5 313 5yrs exp. Seahawks

Ryan Longwell K UFA 6-0 200 9 yrs exp Packers

Koren Robinson WR UFA 6-1 205 5yrs exp. Vikings

Tank Williams S UFA 6-3 223 4 yrs exp.Titans

Chester Taylor RB UFA 5-11 213 4 yrs exp. Ravens

Ben Leber LB UFA 6-3 244 4yrs exp. Chargers

Tony Richardson RB UFA 6-1 238 11 yrs exp. Chiefs

Jason Whittle OG Released 6-4 305 8 yrs exp. NY Giants

JM,

Let me see if I can reword that , so it means what I was thinking. Some of the BIG NAME free agents are past their prime and overrated now (in my opinion), and most likely won't live up to the value they are commanding in a different system. I think the Vikes have stayed away from those types and done a reasonable job. Only time will tell for sure. Hope that clears up what I was trying to say. laugh.gif
