Problems with new Shimano baitcasters?

I bought 2 new Citicas, one is perfect the other so-so

There seems to be some gear problems of something, here's a notice from Shimano

SHIMANO OFFERS NEW LEVELWIND SYSTEM FOR CURADO D, CITICA D AND CRUXIS BAITCASTING REEL

IRVINE, Calif. 2/06 -- Shimano has introduced a Levelwind System Kit for all models of the Curado D, Citica D and Cruxis baitcasting reel series. With the Curado D series, the kit is not needed on the 100 size reels.

This Kit consists of a new Line Guide and a new support system for the Upper Stabilizer bar. “The reason for this change,” said Jeremy Sweet, reel product manager at Shimano, “is that, under certain fishing conditions, the current Line Guide tolerance is too tight with the Stabilizer Bar which can cause the reel to bind up and makes an audible clicking noise. No permanent damage is caused to the reel with this binding. This occurs due to a tight tolerance between the Line Guide and Stabilizer Bar. If any contaminants, such as salt, sand, dirt or vegetation, accumulate on the Stabilizer Bar, the Line Guide will create too much friction on the Stabilizer Bar and bind.”

Thanks Wayne...I owe you one I suppose...

I have most of the informatin,, I am just waiting on one more piece before I really reply to this.. I will say this. The only place they are having troubles with these reels is in and around salt water. And the only reel that has had the problem that I am now aware of is the Citica...There have been no reported problem with the other reels mentioned, however they have the same gearing... It has to do with the very high stanndards in which the gears are made for these reels. And the only problem has happened with brand NEW reels... Once a reel has been broken in, there have been no complaints or problems.

Again.. I will post more information on this as I know it.

Thanks to all!

I got a Curado D in the mail last week and I checked it this morning, no problems with it at all...

Ok.. just got off the phone with the Mother Ship... This is true information from the top... There was a problem with the initial run of the Citica... No other reels had any problems, of any kind at all. If you bought a Citica in Jan or Feb- You may have that sticking problem.. Again, only on the Citica!!!! If you have any problems at all you can send it to shimano and they will install the new kit on it as described above.

All first Run Citicas have been removed from all stores...All Citicas that are on store shelves now are fine, no problems at all!

hope this helps everyone out!

And even if I did sleep with the new Curado D.. not sure I would admit it.. laugh.gif

This is happening down in texas in freshwater. The binding occurs on very slow steady retrieves. Lots of post on the Texas fishin forum.

Maybe Deitz should buy me a... soda (almost said the b word) because I bought two of these on his recommendation.

My first tourney and actual use of these reels is at Table Rock on 3/26, I'll let ya know if I have any problems.
