New Stadium Name?

I know I'm getting tired of hearing about the new stadium proposals that keep getting shot down every month it seems like now. Say the Twins get a new stadium, what do you think they should name the ballpark. I think it would be pretty sweet if they named it after Kirby Puckett in some way. After all, when you think Twins baseball, you think of Kirby Puckett doing the seven fist pumps to get to game seven after hitting the game winner in game six of the 1991 series. I still get chills

Way back when this started I thought that they could get a cooperate sponser and they could help pay for the stadium. I thought it would be cool to have a stadium named "Marshall Fields." I think that they have changed their name since then!

I like the Kirby idea--not sure what I would name it but it would be cool to have the center field seats make the #34 in them. And they could also use the promotion, "We'll see you tomorrow night!"

Pohlad should kick in half the cost of the stadium (rather than the $125 million or whatever it is at in the proposal), and in return it would be named "Pohlad Stadium" or "Pohlad Field". The up-front money would be more valuable than ongoing naming rights, in terms of getting the deal done.

Kirby would get the street name, or a section of the stadium (How 'bout "Puckett Place" in the lower deck outfield seats providing cheap family or kids' tickets?).

I am sure whatever they choose to name it (that is if a deal ever gets done crazy.gif) there will be a great memorial for the late Kirby Pucket. I think this states fans and the organization have too much respect for the man not to honor him in some way where twins fans can appreciatte him for years to come.

How about:

"Your taxes went here" Stadium

"Your road sucks, but we have nice grass" park

"We make millions, you still paid" field.

If they want a park they should find someone like Ralph Engelstad. When he builds a place its perfect and doesnt cost a thing to the average joe. When his hockey rink was built he said it will make money or you wont keep it. And when it went over budget by 10 milliion, he said "Whats 10 million when your spending 100 million! Thats my idea of building a park. Old Carl cant take the money with him when he dies, sorry to break the news to you Carl.

I dont like the metrodome anymore than the next person, but I dont want players, owners, and politicians who are rich to dictate to the average worker what we will pay for.

If a ballpark is built it will definitely have a corporate name since a business will be offering up big bucks. Those expected to bid on the naming rights are Wells Fargo, Best Buy, 3M, and perhaps Medtronic. Northwest Air would like to, but obviously they don't have money for something like that.

As for Puckett, based on the drawings I've seen, there will be a plaza-like area in right field. I can see them calling that area Puckett Plaza.

I can understand people not wanting to have their tax dollars go to a new ballpark. I personally want to be taxed because I've seen how great the new age ballparks are.

What I don't like is when people rail against Pohlad, but fail to mention that our public dollars were used for the following: Metrodome, Xcel Center, Target complex downtown, Block E, Convention Center, etc. I could go on and on.

The ballpark got a hearing today in the Senate. Let's hope it moved forward. Imagine a June afternoon game against the Red Sox, third base side tix with the skyline in the background. Unbeatable!

Would rather have my taxes go to something like schools and education! Count me out on the stadium tax! I N Joy watching a game now and again if there is nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon don't get me wrong, but I would not miss the twinkies if they moved out. We could always go to Rochester and watch the farm team, they are better anyway! Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

I heard on the news that the ball is moving thru the legislature. Stadium issue has passed thru one committee and it needs to go thru some others before it goes to the floor. I thought I heard that the committee made a suggestion that the park be named Kirby Puckett Park. I think they should stay out of the naming and just concentrate on getting the issue passed thru the legislature. Naming concerns should be Twins business.
