Best dirt track?

Recommended Posts

Since we have some dirt track fans and drivers here I was wondering what you guys think are the best dirt tracks in the area, both from a driver/crew point of view and as a spectater?

Spectater. Aberdeen SD. Cedar Lake WI. Bimidji MN. Jamestown ND. Fargo ND.

Driver/crew. Jamestown, Minot ND. Aberdeen. (I've been to more as a spectater than a participant.)

I reallly like our little track in Slayton. 3/8 mile very fast and smooth. Wgtn is a disaster and I don't go there. I've always enjoyed watching the races at Jackson. Huset's has a nice facility but the promotors have the track and rules so screwed up its beyond belief...

That's just my little corner of the state.

I agree with Lawdog. Slayton has a nice track. Now that they don't let the huge trailers on the infield the view from the stands is excellent.

Cedar Lake, Wi track is the stuff also. If you're into the late model scene that's definately the track to go to!!!

I haven't been to many tracks but I spent about 3 summers worth of Saturdays at Cedar Lake. Great track to watch a race. I haven't been there in years. Do they still let you back your vehicles right up to the fence and tailgate?

Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, SD!! Even though the promoter is a "you know what" it is by far one of the best tracks in the midwest. If you guys haven't been here to race or just to watch you should take a trip over here!!! grin.gif

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD FISHING!!!

Are you guys Wissota in that part of the state?

No there is no Wissota around here. You have to go north about 60-75 miles to catch the edge of Wissota territory or west a ways into SD. Around here everything used to be IMCA, now they run USRA at Slayton and Wgtn (offshoot of USMTS), IMCA is still at Jackson, Husets and Rock Rapids have what they call NMRA (kind of a home made sanction).

I enjoyed watching race cars come out of turn three and right towards the Co. Rd., some on their wheels, some on their roofs at the old Arlington Race Track.

The show they put on at the Viking Speedway during the weekend of the 4th is usually worth the price of admission.

I know this isn't a dirt track, but getting a tailgating spot at I-94 Speedway in Sauk Centre was always a blast!

I personally like Deer Creek down by Rochester.Beautifull track, wide sweeping turns, like a Cedar Lake. smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

Another is in Britt,Iowa.Tight turns,long straights,fast cars.Fans can see well. smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

Fairmont isnt to bad of a track either. You can see well from the stands,in the pits you need to be on the top of your trailer to see(big haulers).Track is almost always in pretty good shape and the promoter is a great guy. smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

One cannot forget Knoxville or Boone either.

Arlington in the old days, we were always betting on who would fly across the road in a mod or sprint, Husets for its banking, Fairmont for the speed. My personal favorite is Mason City. Was there 3 times in 2004 and they have a semi cargo trailor parked in the middle of 3&4 up against the track. That gives a whole new perspective to how hard the Stock Cars and Mods are driving into the corners. yep mud flying at you at all times.I never thought I would come away from a race all bruised up but it was a blast to watch. Bring your own helmet and cup if you know what I mean.

As a driver I liked Cedar Lake and Kopellah. Cedar you were running with the best of the best. Kopellah is an old style- dirt in your face bumper to bumper- wheel to wheel old school dirt track. Now as a crewman I like Cedar lake, Kopellah, Ashland, and Deer Creek.
