Snow depth near Fergus

Nova

Recommended Posts

Biglakes, that is one reason we are going. Little brother and I are going to survey the plots we want to make. Dad has clover for one plot and I am putting sunflowers in another. Little brothers plot is the one we are not sure about. I want him to go with the annual blend from MDHA, but we'll see. I will let you know Monday at the latest. Is that OK? thanks for checking with me.

I don't have any trouble getting around on the lake, but in the woods where it is drifted is a different story. A lot of the snow is slabbed up and grainy. Touch and go, but a 6 x 6 might make it. If you have access to a snomobile, that would be MUCH better. They are calling for some freezing rain and snow tomorrow.

For good shed hunting, I'l like to see about a three inch melt first.

Nova - Snow Depth Update!!

If you have a sled, bring it. I took my dog for a run on the wheeler over on a neighboring farm. They had a road plowed thru the woods a week ago, and the owner said it should still be good for a wheeler.

Well, it wasn't frown.gif

In the trees where it had not drifted shut, it was not too bad. Any where the wind was, it was a bear. I got stuck a good dozen times, and finally had to grab a tractor. I got hung up on som slabbed drift, with about a foot of snow under the tires.

Good news is my new blood pressure pills seem to be working great. 6 weeks ago, I would have been a hurting unit from all that digging, but today I felt great. My lab sure gave me that "man - you are a huge one-who-thinks-I-am-silly look" a few times.

Island, that's a good idea, I'll throw the snow shoes in, thanks.

Gissert, you should know better by now, what are you a city kid? grin.gif Glad to hear the old ticker is working well and thanks for the latest update. I don't have a sled, but 2 -14 year old sons with shovels and a pair of snow shoes. We'll get in one way or another. I'll let you know how the shed hunting goes. You still seeing some at the feeder with horns?

I was going to say "city kid" Gissert's initial 6-10" guess was less than I would have stated. It took another episode of his wheeler getting stuck to see the light. laugh.gif LOL

I haven't measured, but in spots it is deep. In the woods I'd say at least 14" of snow. All soft stuff. Hard pack where the drifting occurs.

My ATV goes thru the woods just fine hauling firewood, but then again there are spots it is DEEP and common sense will tell you where those spots are. Winches and shovels are mandatory right now. grin.gif

Shed hunting might be tough since we have not had any warm weather for easier antler exposure in the snow. And, fresh snow in the forecast. But, hey, any day you are in the woods it's an excellent day and that's all that matters....

I haven't seen an antler on a deer in a long time. I've snowmobiled the country sides and seen a lot of herds...no horns spotted.

Have fun!

Holy Hanna Gissert, you weren't kidding about getting a wheeler stuck. Couple hours work and we finally got in. There was 17" of snow piled on the deck. Shed hunting even with snow shoes was a chore to say the least. Lots of deer tracks around, but not much turkey activity, and no yote tracks. I did manage to take home a very nice load of fire wood.

I wasn't able to get to the wood duck houses, have to do that next time, but when I got to the lake with the snowshoes it was real deep. I'll be back up in 2 weeks to get the houses ready, hopefully some of the snow will disappear by then.
