Abu Garcia

I purchased a Abu Garcia Ultracast reel a while back and ended up breaking the thumb-bar on the reel. I brought it into Minnetonka Outdoors and they said it would cost about $60 to replace the frame since it is all one piece. So I sent it into Abu Garcia in Iowa and they ended up replacing the whole frame and putting a new thumb-bar on for free. They didn't even charge me for shipping or anything. I think great customer support and service like this should be talked about more. Abu carries quality products, I know now they stand behind them.

Yes, I've had the same luck with Mitchell, who is also owned by Berkley (like ABU). Also, I sent a Pflueger in for repair and got a new one back, free!

I am a Shimano guy myself, but Abu makes a quality product. My fishing partner uses nothing but Abu, and has had the same great customer service.

To bad my drags on my three Abu Musky reals are about toast. Models 5500 (12 yrs old), 6500C (five), and 6500C (three). I wonder if they would repair them free?

It's worth a shot. Even if they don't, I'll bet the repairs would be pretty cheap.

Just out of curiosity, and since my profession is studying human interactions/relations, how many folks here think it would be FAIR to expect to have those ABU reel drags fixed free?

Probably not fair to expect them to fix the drags for free, but it would not supprise me if they did fix them for free or shipping costs only!
