H2O not working

I have a H2O with the Lakemaster chip in it,the one with like 275 lakes on it.This morning while on the ice it would say 30fow,then drill the hole and the vex read 40fow.Again when in 10fow the vex read 20fow.When I got to 10fow,the vex read 13 fow.Why would I be getting wrong depth readings from this unit when in the last year it has always been perfect to within a foot?

Were you on a lake that Lakemaster had done a new survey on? These are the 1 or 3 foot contour lakes.

If you were on a lake that is just old DNR Data, I have seen similar discrepancies. Some of those older surveys are not all that accurate.

I dont know if Lakemaster has done a 1-3ft map of Washington by St.Peter,MN. It is a DNR 5ft contour map.The chip has been much more accurate and the last few weeks much better.It was off only a few feet.But today I was fishing in the deeper water on the drop-offs.

If you're trying to use it on a 5 ft contour DNR map you should expect it to be off. Those depth contous are not accurate. Your gps works fine, you just don't have an accurate map for that lake.

Make a note of your EPE when you're locating a spot. You may have had a more accurate position the first time you were out than the last. 20' error can make a difference on a sharp drop-off or around a hump. DNR maps aren't exact by any means either, but they'll get you in the general area.

I have the same set-up as you do and have run in the same problems on the same lake. I have since aquired a few different hard copy maps of the lake and all of them are slightly different as well. Been frustrating since I purchased this unit to "guide" me around a few of the lakes I don't know as well as I should. This open water season I'm going to spend a considerable amount of time on this lake getting to know it better and to icon certain areas like transition areas, steep breaks, sunken islands etc... Most of the other lakes in the area I don't even bother bringing the H2O out with me because I know exactly where I'm going and what's beneath me. I have intentionally stayed away from Washington during open water because of the high amounts of traffic and crazy boat landings you can sometimes run in to out there. This summer will be different.

I have used it on the 1-3 ft contour lakes and yes,very good.On this lake,maybe the last few times it was accurate by pure luck and the other day I was around areas where the structure was plentiful and with not being that accurate on 5ft contour Dnr maps that might have been the problem.I will just have to save some spots in the summer while boat fishing and then use those points for reference.

Your only going to get that type of accuracy when your on a lake that was surveyed by LakeMaster.(1 to 3 foot contours) The rest of the lake maps are the DNR lake maps which were done mainly with aerial photos, so those maps only give you a general idea of the contours and structure.

If you have this capability with the H2O, try plotting any known point from the LakeMaster map to the same DNR map and you'll see the maps are not the same.

Harvey sell that chip asap come into the store I have the new navionics chips for 150. They wont last long. You can buy it now or wait untill everyone tells you how awsome it is, and by that time oops sold out. At least with Navionics they offer a chip buy back program, I don't see that with L.E.I
