Size 12, 14, and 16

With the recent talk of down sizing I decided to look through my jigs and I noticed about 90% were size 10. The rest were a mix of 8 and 12. I don't know if I ever seen a size 16 they must be tiny. How many of you guys/gals use these small jigs?

Majority of the time I won't have to go below a size 12. Maybe a 14 from time to time. I own 16's, but I can typically get by with larger jigs.

Size 8 and 10 are my two most common sizes for Metro pannies, probably leaning towards 10 a little more.

However, I would still get a hold of a few 12's and 14's for extreme downsizing. Some of these jigs can down as far as 1/200oz I believe. Some tiny stuff...

Usually for plain hooks that small you have to wander over to the fly fishing section of favorite tackle shop. Mustad makes pretty good hooks that run in the 14 to 16 range.

I wet a #12 Marmooska just about every time I hit the ice in seek of pannies. It's been my go to lure this year. I wouldn't hesitate with the #10 if I were in a body of water that had a good population of gills > 8"

14 is as low as I go. Anything smaller and I'd have to carry a microscope with me to the ice to tie them on.

Most of the fish at the Brawl were taken on either a 12 or a 14 Joe.

Size 16 and 2# test line and my tri-focals cant even see that.

Size 14 is pretty small for hard tackle and size 16 is even smaller for hard tackle. Anytime I think of these sizes I go back to the day when I was fly-fishing size 14-16's nymphs on the streams of SE MN. If the panfish are going to become as picky as the trout down there...........oh boy, I'll have one long day

those of you that have met me, know i have real big hands. i DO use a #14 at times and i believe i have at least one #16 in my box. but i need to use the hemostats clamped onto the hook to tie them on. and they are a b--ch to bait as well. but are very effective when the need arises. .... paul
