marbleye
How much mono line is needed at the end of your lead core? What would be the best way of tying them both together? Thanks for your response...<>< <>< <><
0 End of the Line
It depends n the primary application. I use my for lakers & walleyes on Lake Superior and use about 50 feet. Carot knot.
0 pietigb
All depends.... In my home lakes 5-6ft of fireline is all you need, fireline for occasional northerns and hasnt made a differenece vs. mono for dirty lakes. I will run 15-20ft of mono on a clear lake, I know some people go more but I havent found a difference, but dont do much fishin in clear water. Try some things and stick with confidence. 0 Stratosman
Like they been sayin' depends on water clarity as well. I primarily run in in the fall on the River, stained water, I use only about 10' or so. I tie on a small barrel swivel an reel it right through the eyes on the rod with no problem. 0 kslipsinker
We troll cranks on the St. Croix with lead core all sping and summer. We use 14# Fireline leaders attached to the lead core with a small barrel swivel small enough to fit through the rod eyes. The crankbait is attached with a small snap swivel. Works on the water we fish! Last summer we boated a 45# flathead on the same setup!
0 Rost
I like 15 feet of Power Pro tied on at the end of my lead. Remember, if you have two lead set-ups, make sure you have the same leader length on both or they won't run the same. Also, remember to keep your drag very loose with two "no stretch" lines. 0 Mille Lacs Guy
I suggest running a flourocarbon or mono leader the same length as your rod for a leader, either 10 or 12 pound test. This is all you really need you can run more and it won't hurt but you want to be sure to have all your set-ups the same so they run the lures the same depth as someone else mentioned. The reason I suggest a mono or flouro leader is because it will give you a little stretch for shock absorpstion. The lead will not stretch at all and if you are running fireline or power pro for a leader you aren't getting any stretch or give. If you do go with a no stretch leader make sure you have very limber rods and set your drag loose.
0 Lip RIPPER!
One easy way to tie the two lines together is to tie an overhand knot with the lead, tie an improved cinch knot with your leader line onto the lead and slide it down and cinch it up against the knot you created on the lead.
