Chips for X-15

Northlander

Question

I went and got the new Navionics Premium North Chip for my H2Oc. Awesome in it by the way. The problem I have is it dont work in my X-15 and I knew it wouldnt. My question is what are guys running for a chip in their X-15's that will give 1' contours and have Mn. with LOW, Red, Winni Mill Lacs etc? I looked at Lakemaster but no St.Louis River that I could find. thats my home water so that has to be included. Maybe I didnt see it?

Come on guys help me out on this one. I have to decide to trade in my old Navionics Great Lakes Chip for the $75 credit from Lowrance and buy another chip for the x-15 or just keep what I have. Ideas?

you have to get the MMC chips Not the SD. I had the same problem with the Lakemaster in my LCX 15. Don't know why but, lakemaster is the one who informed me when I got my chip.

From what I hear the processor and memory on my X-15 arent large enough to handle the newer chips. My 15 is only 3or 4 years old and already outdated! I guess thats the world of electronics. My MP3 player I got last year is also outdated already. I think I will just stick with my old chip in my X-15 til I save up enough $ to upgrade. But then again I could go threw this whole ordeal again in a couple years. crazy.gif

Call Lowrance and they will send you an upgrade program for free. It is a chip you put in the X-15 takes a minute or two then you return the chip to them. I got the chip and that is all I needed to do. Good Luck, Kid

Someone was trying to tell me that even though MMC and SD cards are the same size, SD cards have more contacts on the back of the card. Newer units will read either but older units only read MMCs and not the additional contacts on the back of SDs. I only have SDs so I can't compare the backs of the cards, but maybe that's what's going on with your x-15????

You can go to the Lowrance HSOforum and download the software upgrade onto a mmc or sd card and put that into your X15 and it will up grade the software.

Go to the "PRODUCTS" tab near the top and click on "SOFTWARE" Then once you are there click on "PRODUCT UPDATES" You'll be able to scroll down and find your unit. The web site will explain from there how to download and run the update on your unit.

The lates version of software for the X15 is 3.6.0. One of the upgrades is that it will support maps up to 512MB so I don't know if that will be any help to you.

I talked directly to Lowrance and they told me nothing I do will allow me to run newer chips on my X-15. Could I have gotten poor info from a rookie on the ohone? I was told the same thing at Marine General though.

Im seriously bummed out that a 3year old unit is so outdated already! I guess thats how they sell more units. wink.gif Ill just use my old navionics chip for a while I guess. Thats unless someone has a great deal for me on a new 17m, 20c or 25c. wink.gif

The X15mt will perform with the Hotmaps classics MMC cards from Navionics, but does not have sufficient software to support the Gold/Premium MMC/SD cards. X15 & X16 owners are limited to the classic series of Navionics chips. They are still very good chips, but lack some of the upgraded features of the Gold/Premium maps. You may also want to consider the Lakemaster Pro-Maps. They will work with the X15mt, although some older units may require a free software upgrade from Lowrance. These are excellant high detail maps as well.
