I am a senior this year and the University of Iowa is one of my schools on my list I am choosing from. And I need and area where theres good bass fishing in the surrounding area. My question is this, does anyone have any experience fishing for bass in the area around Iowa City? Del, I see that you are from Iowa, have you ever fished over that area of the state? I have done some research and found some lakes and resevoirs around the area and am curious to how the fishing is. Any respone would be great, it will help me in my decision. Thanks.

my brother goes to iowa and my family lives just outside of iowa city, there is a bass fishing club at the university and they go fishing quite a bit from what i hear so theres a great opportunity right there to get to know the spots around the area and learn some pointers

about 4 hours or so! i can get to faribault in less than 3 . grin.gif the only body of water closer is clear lake. hope to start fishing there some this year( about 1.5 hours), but i love the faribault area.( shields,french,mazaska,roberds,kelly-dudley) many more options for windy days, and those lakes have treated me well over the years.

We can't have everyone sugarcoating this Iowa deal. If your smart enough to go to college you should now that Iowa is not where to go to fish! If you have options stay in MN or WI.

I moved here from Nebraska 25 years ago. I went from having few choices. To more lakes than you can fish in a lifetime. In Iowa, The Mississippi river is the only thing down there and it's a good ride from Iowa City.

Football and pheasants Iowa is good, I even dated a pretty girl from there. For Fishing is bad.

Pisces, thats how i chose my school, too bad the parenst shot down my idea of going to Alaska, but Bemidji has worked out pretty well, i get to walk right out from class and g sit in the fishouse between classes, there is a parking lot on the lake in the winter, and most of the resorts up here rent to the college students during the school year.

Priorities, I graduated from UMD last spring. There is good fishing up there. The good thing about college is you don't have too go to class. I thought about it and maybe if I hadn't skipped class and gone fishing so much I would have gotten better grades, resulting in a paying job. But now sitting in my cubicle, looking at fishing websites, I wish I would have skipped class more often.

In my opinion, Iowa isn't the state for fishing. Duluth has excellent fishing and I bet Bimiji is even better, but it all depends on what you are going to school for. Good luck, one thing I learned is that you will get better grades in classes you attend regularly.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not one to skip classes so I don't think I'll have that problem. I've heard good things about the college, nice campus, D-1 football, great atmosphere, so theres more to just fishing when I'm deciding, its just one thing I considered. Thanks again for then input!
