Little Atom`s New Optic Stealth Jigs

Recommended Posts

I got the word from Rick over at Little-Atom and they will be on the sites shopping cart soon. I had a chance to field test a few with my own paint on them and they swim awesome. I paired them up with a Nuggie from LA and well somebody has to be able to help me post some pics. I tried them on a recent visit with Jim Hudson too. I was actually pretty shocked when the plastic started working on those smallies. These are lead and not tungsten so they fish in the same weight as the Original Optic Jig but with a mormyshka like swim. These should be great for weed fishing. Can't wait, these paint jobs are sweet and mine are on there way. Could be used for a dropper off of spoons also. Thumbs up from me. cool.gif

I got the chance to use a couple of those Optic Stealth Jigs this past weekend and they are excellent panfish jigs! I worked them both with maggots and plastics, of which both techniques seemed effective on monster gills. They fish heavy and can be applied to deep water panfish situations, which is something that comes in handy throughout much of winter. Outstanding feel with these jigs.

Without a doubt, these new Optic Stealth Jigs have found a place in my tackle arsenal for pannies! To be honest, I have one tied on right now and it will get another work out on Wednesday! grin.gif

Here's a gill caught on the Optic Stealth Jig...

The regular Optic Jig is another option from Little-Atom as well. It also found its way towards a few nice pannies this weekend as well...

I've been fishing prototypes of these beauties for a few weeks now and I love em! The production versions even look better, as the hook location is perfect for instant hook ups. The paint jobs are great and the hooks are top quality, sticky sharp with clean eyes. Did I mention that the name is cool too...

Now if we can just get some cold weather, we can give these babies a good work out on the circuit. Right Tony? I've been sharpening hooks and organizing tackle, restringing rods, etc, etc and I'm about ready to freak out if another event gets postponed...Remember, I'm in SE MI. The only ice I've got is in my freezer. Hey, maybe I could...wife wouldn't understand...

I know how you feel John, I drove alomost 4 hrs to get on some ice yesterday. I got out on Redstone and well after about 3 hours of drilling and searching...the Nuggie strikes again. My son had a blast "helping" dad for a tourney. He really pushed me to get him on some fish. While most were sniffers the ones that ate it came right for it and took it down thier throat past the knot ( thus the advantage of quality, scented plastics). Not the ones we were looking for but good action for us. Average 7-9.5" Crappies. I wasn't going to complain he was finally smiling. This morning on the way up to the door at school he proclaimed "the best weekend I ever had." If that isn't what it's all about I don't know what is. Our new Optic Stealth jigs came today!

Little-Atom strikes again, thanks Rick!

I'm not sure about FM but you can order direct form the Little-Atom site click here. Go to the Shopping Cart. Mike just dropped mine off, they are great looking. Now I need to get back on the ice. Looks like the cold is coming back though.

He is offering a Limited Edition NAIFC McNett and Boshold Winning bait kit very soon too. You may want to ask about that. It will be loaded with our favorite plastics and colors and the Shmoe Spoon or as I like to call it, the "crappie killer".

I fished the Nuggies soft plastic on the Optic Stealth jig and had great results. Their soft plastics are scented with a special C-9 formula (anise). They are absolutely deadly and caught just as many (if not more) fish than live bait!

Some of the dirrerent plastics they offer are:

Duppies

Spidgies

Skimpies

Wedgees

Noodles

Micro Noodles

Nuggies

They come in a full range of colors to meet anglers specific needs.

I recommend giving them a try.

I talked to the company yesterday and the supplies are running low on the stealth jigs. They are going out faster then he can get them made. If you are looking to get some I would order now because the next batch might not be ready until March. shocked.gif This was a test market year for them and the test went better than expected. Nice fish Matt and Corey. grin.gif

Wow, a shortage already and they have been selling for about a week!!! OH MY! I'm still pining for some ice to try mine out.

The best part about all the Little Atom line up of jigs is the extremely convenient CLEANED EYELETS!!!

I'd like to bring up a few other proven thru the years (50+years) lures. Often imitated never duplicated...nothing works like the ORIGINALS!

Anybody ever try an Original Pinkie From Little-Atom the first invention in oh 1950. My first and fondest time in a boat (23 years ago) we threw L-A Pinkies tipped with spikes and slayed the pannies. Just cast them over weeds and swam them back to the boat. Works just as good today as back then.

Lets talk hard plastic, another NO BAIT option.

Have you tried the Little-Atom Original Purist jigs?

The first time I put one down a hole I saw 5 bulls fighting over it (sight fishing), at 11am, first time that happened all day. That bait claimed 3 or 4 top 10 finishes that day. Crappies love them too, try a loop knot and an upsized offering.

How about the L-A Rembrandt Jig?

Another "Hard Plastic" option that has been around longer than I. I have had success adding some Wedgies to this bait as well.

A vertical jig, The Original Little-Atom Shmoe spoon? This is the lure I used on day one for Crappies to help win the NAIFC. If you have never tried the Shmoe, your missing out. No other copy fishes like this L-A bait. One of the best days of my life using the largest size on the crappies tipped with the Nuggies tail in a horizontal position. It planes on descent and shakes and shimmies a plastic tail pointing it to the sky all the way down. It has a rocking motion when jigged.

Overlooked plastic variations!

How about them Spidgies. The star, octo, spidey looking plastics. This is the most versatile plastic I have seen. You can use it straight away on an ant Jig. Just slip it on and your good to go. If they don't like all the legs just pinch off the ones you don't want. Don't just pitch those "unwanted legs", they make a great short wedgie. Which is another option when they keep grabbing the tail on a longer bait. And yet my favorite way to use a Spidgie is to pinch off 2 legs. Then I have a double tailed short wedgie looking bait now.

Duppies - Try sticking the hook right into the bait about an 1/8 inch back from the tip and then do another Duppie on top of that and fan them out. Creates a 4 legged creature crappies and gills love when they are on the feed. Have not run into any perch with this rig but looks like a crawdad in the water.

If blood worms are what the fish want that's when I'm using the L-A Skimpies tails. These are so natural and lifelike compared to others, they are much thinner. The L-A Motor Oil Color is a dead on blood worm imitation, sort of olive greenish, redish, brownish...changes in changing light. Not my only color in the Skimpie but a first down if I think they are eating blood worms.

More often than not when I see fish grabbing the tail and not jumping on the bait I have a theory. They like the motion they're just not turned on by the color. Switching colors will usually result an fish coming and nailing it from out of no where while others stare at it.

I liken useing plastics on Ice to using artificials on open water, you are stepping up to the plate and targeting aggressive fish. It can be a tough choice but when you get more bigger fish on the plastics...Priceless!

Selecting for the larger specimens is a choice.

They show up very well on the LX-5, or any flasher for that matter. That's a good point metrojoe.

I also like the hook design and placement. My hooking percentage with the Optic Stealth Jig has been very good. The angled hook really seems to steer the hook in the right direction upon hook-set.

One of the things I like the most about them is that they have a small profile, yet they drop quick and have a little weight to them. This is great for finessing pannies in deeper water. You'll be amazed at how much feel you still have with this jig when working over a suspended pod of crappies in 35-40 feet of water...

Rest assured that all of the Little Atom Pro-staff will give them a good medium depth workout on Lake Redstone in about a week. Those crappies are going to see alot of Nuggies and Optic Stealth jigs next week and maybe few other surprises as well...Bob and I will post pictures of the carnage.

I was able to get my mitts on a couple of these baits in sizes 12 and 14 for the Backwater Brawl on Saturday the 4th.

We got hit with a heavy duty cold front late Friday and the effects of it were apparent in how well decent fish were hitting....they came very hard.

I was able to tease some smaller fish with some of the Little Atom finesse plastics on a size 12 Stealth jig , but the size was consistantly small. By down sizing to a 14, forgetting the plastics, and hanging a euro on the hook I was able to tease many more fish into a committed hit and even a couple of keeper size.

These little lures really do fish fast given their tiny profile. Depths of 15 feet were the norm to find numbers of fish and the way the fish stacked it was important to have a bait that would get thru the masses quickly to the better target fish. These guys did just that.

Hook-ups were certainly more positive than those of a Marmooska jig of the same hook size. And while the Marmooskas have shown a tendency to twist the line pretty badly, the Stealths exhibited little of this problem , if at all. Many times a spinning or turning bait will shut fish off and I think that the lack of this action help me get into the more than fifty caught at the event.

I see more of these jigs being aimed at my tackle box in the future. It would be hard to imagine what the bite might have been had I enjoyed having all of the available colors. The need to find a compact jig with a fast drop started with me using the marmooskas, but having had some time with the Optic Stealth I will safely say that the foriegn numbers are now in the back seat for me.

Little Atom has done an outstanding job on these "class act" micro jigs. My hat is off to them!
