bucketmouth64
I don't think this will be a bad choice. From all that has been said about him he is a can't miss type coach. At least it won't be a re-tread coach. The nfl needs new faces with new ideas. I am glad it wasn't Cottrell either. I don't think he has disciplinary authority. Too soft spoken. Wonder if Childress will keep him as def. coord. I guess we will find out more info. later today at the press conference at 11am from Winter Park. TNFL
I'll just say I'm not overly impressed with the eagle's offense -T.O. . But I do like the way the eagles run thier organization. We'll have to see though. I'll admit as much as I didn't think Tice was the man he was better than I thought he would be.
nofishfisherman
Even though the Eagles Offense ranked around the 10-15th best mark for the last 4 years I think that is a great credit to Childress becuase only one of those years did they have TO and beside him and McNabb they didn't have much offensive talent. Westbrook wasn't anything before last year. He got alot out of what he had. And before TO he had nothing for recievers even though they pass the ball 70% of the time. He was part of getting them to 4 straight NFC title games.
hunting_4_fun
New life and new opportunity for the Vikes. We all have something to look forward to this next season. I surely hope that he cans Cotrell, I know the defense looked good the last few games of the season but if you look at the talent on that team (defensively) they were a disappointment. With good coaching and a new perspective, they may turn into a contender. Lookin forward to '
nofishfisherman
I think Cotrell started doing a good job the last half of the year after the guys got used to playing together. He will be better under a better head coach.
lawdog
I think this guy is going to bring in his own people. Story I saw said the linebacker or defensive back coach for Philly may be his D-coordinator and the QB coach his O-coordinator.Generally I think Wilf showed he's serious about making a winner of this team. He pursued the two top candidates in the NFL vigorously and got one of them (the other, Williams, took himself off the market). They press are reporting he'll give this guy money to hire a good staff too. Our whole coaching staff last year made less than a handful of the head coaches make by themselves. Its no wonder they weren't the cream of the crop, you can't expect miracles from that caliber of hires... In other words, THANKS RED FOR BEING A CHEAP S.O.B. and leaving a shell of an organization to crumble into itself.
nofishfisherman
I think that regardless of who the coordinators are the team will be better from a coaching stand point. If Cotrell is back its becuase he is the best man for the job and not because he is the cheapest thing available.Spend the money and you will get the coaches you need. HarryG
I think he was the best coach for the job. Who else would be better? Martz would be another Denny Green. Norv Turner, NO. He came from a good Organization and he has a good resume. I hope we get some good games next year. I liked Mike Tice, but he did not show any consistency in any of his years. I think Wilf will spend money to hire a good staff. I was not impressed with Tice's staff.
JIvers
I don't know enough about Childress to say he was a good pick; according to press reports the Wilfs were impressed with his pedigree and football knowledge. I am glad they didn't go with Mike Martz or someone like Fassell, whom I know I didn't like.
Bobby Bass
Williams was hired back at 3 mil per season.. Tice's ENTIRE coaching staff salary was 2.5 mil this season. You get what you pay for. Your head coach is not suppose to be your line coach your Def coach and sit in on special teams. Think Tice did a good job. If Childress has a good first season don't give him all the credit unless he really goes out and cleans house of players to and that remains to be seen. I just hope everyone does not think a coach is all that was needed. Anyone want to wager Bennet stays around? he has history with Childress. nofishfisherman
I wouldn't be surprised either way I guess. You never know if Childress even liked Bennet when they were together. If all my dreams where to come true I would find a sack full of cash, I would catch a 30 inch walleye this weekend and the Vikings will fork over big money and sign either Edgerin James or Shaun Alexander.Truth be told I would settle for any one of those three. letsfish
It looks to me like we are working our way through the "everybody loves Raymond clan". Tice was a spitting image of Robert and this childress guy is Frank. Put grey hair on him and he is a spitting image of him. Whats next Marie on the next love boat. Oh well it should be better. 2dalake
Everything I've heard points to Childress being the one who stuck up to Owens and sent him packing in Phillie. If that is true maybe the Vikes will spend less time in court and more time in the end zone.
eyepatrol
2dalakeThat's what I've heard too. I also heard he was the one that took part in the decision to get rid of that other receive who had quite the mouth last year. I can't remember what his name is right off hand, but he was a big talker and disruptive to the team like TO was.Hopefully he gets the teams attitude in "ship shape". No pun intended. ha! JIvers
I have not heard anything about Childress's role in getting rid of TO or Freddy Mitchell (who wasn't that great of a receiver to begin with). However, if Childress was part of getting rid of a locker-room cancer like TO, his stock with me goes up. I also enjoyed Childress's news conference where he said "we are going to go ashore, burn the boats, and never look back". Read all you want into that statement.
