Spring bobber recommendations?

The Frabil units look like a dandy add-on. I use a similar spring and have little in the line of problems with icing when in a shack with heat. If it is above 30 outside they freeze very little too. Any spring bobber where the line is threaded thru the spring's body will ice up if the temps dive.

Also, I recommend removing the spring if the rod is to be stored in a rod bag to prevent permanant damage to the spring itself and these Frabils appear to offer ease in doing so.

Make certain the Frabils fit into your rod tip eye before purchasing. A few weeks ago I told a buddy of mine to pick some up before we went out fishing. He did, but when he got to the ice they didn't fit on either of his rods. He was using your standard $20 combo rod/reel

PS They look slick thou

A week or so ago their was a post about spring bobbers here on FM. After reading thru it, I bought several spring bobbers and they work great!! With a spring bobber combo with the Vex, I was hooking more fish than I was just jigging with the Vex. When you see the panfish rising to your bait, then I'd just watch the spring bobber tip and the minute you see that spring move, set the hook. Sweet. I got a lot higher percentage of fish hooked with the spring bobber than without. Thanks Crappie Tom.

I'm not a real fan of the spring bobber. I've used them with great success, but as mentioned above, they freeze up. They are much better suited for the perm guy or on warm days. I just buy my panfish rods with a sensitive tip.

I had trouble the other night trying to thread my line through the new Frabill springbobbers, maybe I was just a little impatient. I ended up not even bothering with that particular rod, I just used my new Thorne rod instead. You can feel everything with it!

Sight....Try yaking a ten inch length of fine copper wire, bending it tightly in halfand thread that thru the spring. Slip your line thru the wire's loop and pulling it back to the tip. I found the same snafu with the line, but this works great and takes up no room in the tackle for those times when you need to have it.

There is a spring which attaches to the rod using shrink tubing that will allow you to slide the spring on the rod blank between the tip and the first guide. Once your line is threaded you can simply slide the spring backto travel or store the rod and when you want to use it you slide it back out past the tip-top. Some of my rods have the springs mounted this way and they work great.

I bought the Frabil 3-pack springs at Gander the other day but they are not as long as the shrink wrap springs I already have on my rods hence not as sensitive. I'll use them when one of my old ones wear out. I recommend not trying to string them on the ice or you may lose your mind unless you have a piece of wire.

Used my new Frabil rod with spring bobber last night for the first time and iced almost 2 dozen fish. My buddy with out a spring bobber cauld maybe 1/2 that. It was a light bite on our lake and all I can figure is that it was the spring bobber. 1st time I have ever used one. I think I will keep using it!!! smile.gif
