Lowrance 67c ice machine questions

Kodiak

Question

I have some questions on the new lowrance 67c ice machine. I have a fl-8 genz right now that i am happy with but would not mind trying out that new lowrance. Has anyone used one or heard anything about them? can you use one next to another vexilar (in the same shack) without problems? tell me what you know before i go buy one and maybe make a mistake???

thanks,

Jason

Auger, u do understand what a pixel is? My units detect minnows dancing, a horizontal-vertical difference in maggots, buzz stix movements in the tiniest jigs, and when ur fishing without bait. Have u ever needed to tie a line? What r u looking at? Have u ever seen a fish slightly break the bottom and disappear? While ur tying a line? That memory helps u to pick up on that when ur having to do something. Go ahead, glue urself to a screen and fish without bait.

I LOVE THIS THING!!!

I've got an M68C. NEVER a problem with interference, if you get some, then tweak the ping speed & sensitivity. It'll go away.

I used it last winter at around -15, had noo problems with the screen freezing up or anything like that. Just make sure that the battery is charged, and it'll work great for you.

I also like the "extras" on the flasher portion of the unit. The ability to change colors, the split screen, the different backgrounds, it just has more choices than a regular flasher that, in my opinion, make it better and easier to use.

The sonar is awesome, and my kids like the "fish with numbers thing", as they like to call it. (You can set the sonar to show a fish-looking icon with the fish's depth above it. Fun toy, if not a good tool at times)

I also used it this past summer in the bow of my boat. My only problem was getting the transducer set-up on the trolling motor (OLD Minn-kota, the fin is in a bad spot to add a high-speed transducer) to show the whole fish arch. Once I got it right, it was awesome there too!

My ONLY, and I stress ONLY complaint on this unit is the GPS maps.. no depth contours... water is basically a blue patch on the screen...

I'd say go for it.. best bang for your buck, IMHO.

SWIMMER - what exactly does Lowrance do for updates? If it's a GPS update, that'd be AWESOME!!!!!!

If you got the ice transducer, all I'd think you'd need would ba a 12V battery and a place to put the darn thing. I know that mine came in a carrying bag, with a mounting tray that has a spot for the battery. What all do you have for your unit, and maybe I could help you with better info.?

Yep. You need the ice transducer and a way to power it. The transducer, carry case, battery and charger will run you ~$170.00 from Lowrance. The Ice transducer and power cable are ~$80 and a 12v gell battery is about $20. So for about $100 you get the essentials and then you need to mount the thing on something. Lowrance sells accessories on their HSOforum. Think it is LEI-extras. Thorne Bros or Cabelas are probably your best bet locally

I'm another happy x67c owner. I bought the Ice Machine, and I also run it with a high-speed transducer in the summer. I run it year round. For $299 (the going price now), it's by far the best bang for the buck. Most people who take it back for interference don't know how to use the unit very well. Ping Speed, Hyperscroll, Noise Rejection, Sensitivity - they all influence interference cancellation - if you take the time to stop, breathe, read, learn, and experiment, you can have as much luck getting rid of interference as with the other guys. And dont forget simply raising or lowering the transducer in the water column.

The ways you can display information about what is going on down there is revolutionary for ice fishing. I like to use 256 colors in split zoom graph mode with the zoom bar and FasTrack vertical flasher on the side, so I can scroll up and down the water column in 2x or 4x zoom mode on one graph panel, see the whole column in the other graph panel, and have a vertical flasher on the side - with a numerical display of depth and battery voltage on top. That way, I have three ways to see my jig, how big the fish is, how close to the center of the water column it is, and I can follow the fish up and down the column.

I can't ever imagine going back to one of the other traditional flashers again after doing that! Add to that it is an awesome open water unit.

I've never had a problem with it no matter how cold out it was. The only caveat is do not STORE it below -5 degrees. It will take hours for the liquid in the active matrix TFT display to freeze, but it will eventually - JUST LIKE those nice color GPS screens we all want! grin.gif It's the same technology.

If you want to try it before you buy it, you can DOWNLOAD the manual AND the actual unit! They have an emulator you can run on your PC that runs the exact software that the x67c runs. You can practice the menu settings at work! smile.gif

If you send your unit to Lowrance in Tulsa, they will upgrade the software. They don't publish the enhancements and bug fixes contained in their software releases.

Did you see that they now show the X102C as an Ice Machine version? Saw it at the ice fishing show. 2400 WATTS (Marcum lx5 is 2000 watts) and twice the screen size as the x67c! grin.gif That makes the split graph adjustible zoom mode *thee* mode for ice fishing. If they decide to make a dual freq ice transducer, you could get the X107C DF and switch between 'ducer frequencies and cone angles...

I own the x67 and use it summer and winter. It's been awesome in the summer but I've had mixed results in the winter. It's 2 years old and I did send it in last year for the ice machine update. I've had interference problems with other Vexlars. Can those who have had success eliminating interference give a detailed outline of where you start to eliminate interference? I've heard people say, adjust sensitivity, ping speed, etc. but what is your usual protocal when fishing next to a vexlar/marcum when experienceing interference? The usual intereference I've had completely knocks out my x67 with weird depths and the whole deal. When the vex is turned off it works again. This is usually in a 16' permanent house.

I've had the X67c for two years and have had nothing but praises for it. As far as "slowing down" or not working in colder temps I have never seen a problem and I have fished in -16 temps outside. I have a small portable but only set it up for noon time cooking and to unthaw occasionally so that machine is running outside all the time. With the carrying case that contains the battery and everything it is, in my opinion, one of the best machines on the ice right now. I use it mostly in the graph mode with the split screen and that gives me the flexibility to zoom in on a certain area of the water table and focus just on the areas where the fish are. For example, I was fishing last winter in 35 ft on the MN river. Nothing going on the bottom but I kept seeing something coming through about 15 ft below the ice. Zoomed in to that depth and could make out individual fish and ended up catching some nice sauger. with the graph mode you have the history to look at so you know exactly what your lure did to make that fish strike. Great machine and resonably priced considering you can also use it in the boat if you have the other transducer. I don't think you'll be dissapointed if you get one. my $.02

If you want to take a look at how the 67c looks or runs, you can go to the lowrance web site and go to the product finder on the right side find the 67c ice machine and then click the the product emulator the download it.

It's kind of neat,

The emulator runs on your computer and looks just like the real thing. you can also practice or see what certain settings do.

I just got my x67c back from Tulsa, free, and while they said in earlier emails I had the latest version of software, 1.4.0, I found my unit came back with version 1.6.0. So, I am darn ready to hit the ice with the latest version of the Ice Machine. Not sure, but can you update Software on a vex or mcum?

castindad -

The package that you want is the Lowrance PPP-15. It includes the ice transducer, battery & charger and carrying bag, which I would think has the tray in it like mine does.

Check Lowrance's HSOforum. The whole package runs for about $170.

I don't have a boat but rent them a few times a year. I was wondering if the 67c is a easy unit to use in a rental boat. Can you judt drop the transducer over the side or do you need to mount the transducer to the boat?

Obviously if you just dropped it over the side you would need to be at a pretty slow speed.

Thanks for the help.

Two options - just drop it over the side or buy a skimmer transducer with a suction cap to attach trnasducer to boat. Costs about $60. Thorne Bros. used to include the skimmer transducer for free. Check thier HSOforum and you should be able to get the suction cup thrown in.
