St Paul Ice Show deals+more

Made it to the show today around 3pm for the first time. Ran into Dennis Steele and Matt Johnson at the Thorne Bros. booth. Nice to chat with you guys.

Lots of deals but not much that I needed, did manage to pick up about 30+ jigs for under $10 at various booths and saw the new Marcum color in action. I may have to send mine in and bite the bullet for a couple weeks without one.

Show didn't seem to be too busy today but I did learn one thing, my 3 year old daughter paid my way in with all the freebies handed to her between scoops and jigs. Ice fisherman...what a good group of guys!

As for Clay, he might have a chance if he actually gets away from his other half and gets onto the ice.

Yeah, I figured that, how does that brad paisley song go? Wrapped around her finger....? That kid needs to get out and do some fishing that woman is messing with his mind.

When I got home on Saturday my wife took my Thorne Bros 32" Sweetheart Plus away from me, wrapped it and stuck it under the tree! frown.gif I guess I won't be using that one for a few weeks and it's a good thing she dosen't know what else I have!!

Look at it this way, you'll still going to have the rod for the bulk of your ice fishing adventures this year, and you have something to look forward to smile.gif The good thing is that she didn't take it away and make you give it back or sell it. There's a bright side to this, don't worry grin.gif

Nice talking with you this weekend as well, you're going to like that Sweet Heart...

You guys are all killing me with this thread!

We had kids birthdays on Saturday so an event filled day and then I was under strict orders that doing the outside X-mas decorating was my Sunday agenda since I'd been deer and pheasant hunting way too much. I know my son thought I was just cold from working outside when really I was shaking from missing the show.

I guess I missed the deals and will just have to pay the regular prices for everything I need. (I have no idea what it is at this moment but I guarantee that I will recognize a whole bunch of gotta haves once I'm in the store. Thorne Brothers is on my list for a custom rod--just haven't figured out what it is going to be yet.)

Tripleplay,

We'll have to meet up on the ice in the next few weeks and you can test out a few of my Thorne Bros rods to see what action you like if you're having a tough time deciding. I'm going to plan a Metro Get Together in late December in search of pannies and maybe we can meet up then. I'm sure you'll be out on Medicine a few times this winter again too smile.gif

As you know, my problem is most of my "good" stuff keeps migrating across the house into my son's hands! Over half the time I come back to no graph and my ultralite in one of his holes.

I'm not sure if I want another light pannie rod since the majority of my fishing will be local after crappies like on Medicine. But, I do have another trip to LOW and URL in January and an upgrade there might be the ticket.

Definitely will be out in the weeks to come and I think the get together in late December may work around some family holiday plans out of town. See you on the ice soon!

Made it back home yesterday. I had to go to the Cabelas in Rodgers and help out in the St. Croix booth. It was good to meet some of the FM guys Cory B, Jeff Dosch, of corse MJ and his family ( tell your dad the BBQ was good), I missed Ray at Reeds and Hanson I must just missed ya. I did get some that Amsoil Saber though. Hanson if you go on that pike trip you are going to have a blast!!! Devils Lake has some awwsome pike fishing. I did see Dietz at Cabelas. Good to see some of the FM gang again. Can`t wait for the 1st of the year when I will be back up that way.

I went Saturday and brought my 2 oldest kids. Chatted with Matt for a bit on the Thorne Brothers rods, but.. I still have sticker shock on them. smile.gif

I did manage to pick up a few jigs and 2 JR's tackles rod/reel combos. During the whole time there, all my kids said was "Can we go fishing"? So, it was hard to take the whole show completly in. I did end up taking them to the fishing pond, and my daughter landed a nice trout, which she also ate for dinner. laugh.gif I also had to explain to my son, who didnt catch one, that it's called 'fishing' and not 'catching'.

Hmmm... You must have talked with Mr. Dosch. grin.gif

I made it out to Devil's 2 times last winter, 1 early and 1 late ice trip. Early was definitely better. The guys I was with weren't interested in fishing pike but guess what? 90% of the lake was still open water and there was no other choice. Once I figured out a little pattern, I was able to get a buddy on a pike that went 8-9 pounds and happened to be his biggest ever. That was the biggest pike we got but had decent numbers in that 5-8 pound range.

Hi all,.....Hello again Hanson. Koop And I went to the show sunday afternoon. I had been drooling over a Thorn Bros. rod for a few years now and finally pulled the trigger on one! Got the Perch sweetheart and put a SS500 Tica Cetus reel on it. Can't wait to use it.....feels awesome! Koop ended up with a good deal on a Fishtrap Pro right at closing time. The vendor didn't want to haul it back home. Great show.
