tw12spot
I have been to three Nascar races and I would much rather pay 20 bucks to see sprint cars and the racing is better most of the time. Rippin what is your brother-in-laws name?
Rippinlip
Trapper, My brother-in-law is Leigh Thomas out of Duluth.#29 Sprint, he runs in the following leagues:360 WISSOTA, 410 IRA, We dable with the WOO when they are in Fargo, Princeton, and Cedar Lake.We even ran against the Canadian Sprint league twice. So you can see why my summers are gone. Not complaining though LOVE every minute if it.
harvey lee
My son races modifides at several dirt tracks, you cant beat the action. We race in Arlington,Fairmont and a few other tracks.Last year we raced 48 shows and that was enough for me in a summer,to much fixing on some weekends. lawdog
What happened to your other acct Lee? you seem all backwards now...And 48 shows? Holy cow, I thought I did a lot of wrenching and I've never run 20 nights in a year...
harvey lee
lawdog-have to be more backwards now that I had to change my user name,my tower got some virus problems and I had to shoot it with my 300 mag, so new e-mail and user name and yes 48 shows is alot of time and money. Papa Grump
48 shows ,WOW!. I would rather watch dirt racin' rather than the tar head boys. I spent 15 years with the Voss family at Arlington, being crew chief, major sponser, ect.. than discovered fishing again about 4 years ago, bought a River Pro and hardly get to the track anymore. I do miss it and do some carb work for a few guys ,so that keeps the interest up.
tw12spot
well I'm glad I asked the question. Dirt racin is were its at. Rippin I've seen your brother in law a few times at Princeton. I use to go and watch Tony Grams when he was racing 360s. Also have a cousin that races a super stock and another that races a streeter. Try to go with them as much as possible. What is the deal with the Woo and Nsl?
harvey lee
would that Voss family member be Joe? He pits only two spots down from us.
Papa Grump
That be Joe ( track champ in '96 and Adam in 2000). I plan on spending more time this next year at Arlington helping him out, especially being Godfather to the twins and they started racing the go carts this past year and winning out of the box. harvey lee
We will im sure see you out there as my son runs the 74 modified. We ended up fifth in points as a crash with 2 races to go took us out of second or third. We ended up fourth in the state for IMCA.Hopefully next year we can do a little better and move up.Last year we changed to a new 4-link chassis from Harris and it took awhile to get that figured out, fast car but very touchy. Eric Wettschreck
For what it's worth, I've never been to a Nascar race, but I've been to about a gabillion dirt track races.I'd much rather fork out 20 bucks to see local fellas run than fork out a grand for a trip to a Nascar race. And it's better racing, IMO.My opinion only here......Many of the dirt track racers, especially the fellas running late models in the Wissota series can out drive half the Nascar drivers with blindfolds on. No lack of respect intended for the local fellas runnin dirt tracks in SW MN, in the Hobby, SS, or outlaws intended. Yous boys can run too!!! Papa Grump
I completely agree with your opinion. Take a look at past few champs in NASCAR and they all have dirt track racing experiance and they will still refer to it on how much fun it was. Harvey - Those 4 link suspensions are the way to go, it comes down to figuring out your shock package. I know Burger struggled for a few years until he figured it out, now all he does is change a couple of shocks ,and move the Pitman arm around. What is neat is that those suspensions need to be driven hard into the corners for them to work correctly. lindylittlejim
would your son be CLint Hatlestad? I go to the races to much throughout the summer, mainly fairmont, jackson, deer creek and all USMTS shows in the areas. racing in the summer, fishing when not at the races, fishing all winter, what else could a guy ask for? harvey lee
You are correct in the # 74 car is my son Clint. This past year we raced most of the shows in Arlington and all but 2 or 3 in Fairmont. We also did a few specials and a couple in Iowa along with the Harris Clash.I dont know if we are going to run that many shows next summer but the kid says yes. That will work as long as there are not to many crashes as those things get very, very spendy. hardwaterwalker
Hey guys just my two cents. I used to live in kato and went to arlington and fairmont every week. Really miss those big tracks. Now go to Dodge county at Kasson and to Deer Creek, deer creek is a great track but they are small. I too relly enjoy the USMTS. If any of you out there were at fairmont back in the 70's, you would remember old man shryock, Bob , his kid Kelly now runs with USMTS and has been champion for many years running. Are the torgesons still running in arlington use to be just darrrell running a mod then his kid danny started just wonderin if darrell retired. He could really set up a car, didn't have all the horses everyone else had but did very well. I use to live a block away from him. Would really like to hear some of the old names to see if they are still there.
harvey lee
Darrell is there with Dan every week and just Dan races. You will probably remember Rick LLoyd and Jerry Wren and maybe Paul Burger. The Reagen Boys are also still racing. The Allens and whiskers still race the sprint class, and I could go on and on. hardwaterwalker
Hey thanks harvey. Yep all the names bring back memories. By the reagans you can't tell me chuck is still racing. I remember one night when Chuck got black flagged, he parked under flagman stand and got out and tried to get to him. Bobby ran out and toke his steering wheel from his car and Chuck chased him to the infield. What a riot that was. And I know the Allens personally, who do you call whiskers? Do you remeber the Chatleains, Donny and Mike? I use to be nieghbors to mike, but we called him choker anyway, anytime he got close to the front he would spin or crash. Use to ride him all the time. Does a smith run sprints there? I can't remeber his name , short little round guy, use to be a nieghbor also. How does Fiel, the one that owns the Cabin Bar from Nicollet do? That is where I grew up. Never really heard anything about him.
Papa Grump
Chuck passed away this past year, but his boys race every week yet and managed a couple of wins this past summer. Jeff Fiel won a couple of races driving Paul Burger's old car after he trashed his. I heard that there was a couple of more "incidents" with the officials this past year, but cooler heads prevail. Maybe another reason why I spend more time on the river than at the track.
harvey lee
Papa Grump: So true,as there are a few nights when I dont go to Arlington as some incidents get a little old.Same people every year.Whiskers name is Dwaine Wilmes, and he has been racing a long time.
