Best way to get rid of a Gopher?

Recommended Posts

At one of my friends houses they have a mound that is taken over by gophers. There is about 15-20 holes on an actually pretty small mound maybe 15x15ft.

I thought I heard about a pole you stick in the ground that makes a vibration, so I told them to try that out. Or I told them to live bait them and dispose of them to another forest or something. The last thing I said was to set out some bait and shoot the things, but the only thing that might be bad is the mound is for the septic tank.

Any ideas?

My septic/mound system has the same issue. Every summer my boys have a great time shooting them with their pellet guns. Only thing is them things multiply faster than you can shoot them...way faster. Now they are eating the roots of my Norway pines and tipping them over. I'll be trying the posion next spring. Thanks for the tip BB.

Here's something I heard about to get rid of rodents. Go to the Health Food store and get a bottle of "Oil of pepperment", it's about $4. NOT oil extract from the grocery store. When I asked for it the clerk asked if I had problems with mice, rats, chipmunks or gophers. I said I did and she told me they would get out of Dodge fast as rodents are alergic to the stuff. Put 6 or so drops on cotton balls and drop them into the hole. It sure works for mice and chipmunks and makes the basement smell sweet.

Try all of the above and this one....use the sulfer rodent smoke bombs. When you light it and stick it in the hole, reverse the hose on the shop vac and blow it in good. You should see smoke coming out all ofthe holes. If not, repeat on the holes that have no smoke.

It takes all out war to get rid of them so hit them with everything you got.

How about running a flex tube from your auto exhaust into the hole and carbon monoxiding em? Don't know if it works, but I've heard of people doing it? tongue.gif

What about one of them electric worm getters? Electrocute the suckers! grin.gif

I had one of the little buggers always poping it head out of his hole. So I got a small leg trap for bunnys and cats. cool.gif I set the trap and flipped it over (pan upside down) the hole. Watched it for a few mins and saw something move. I walked over there. The gopher hit the pan with his head and set the trap. The trap got his head and neck. Killed the little bugger. with a tank there can't you use like a .410 with out is going too far into the ground and hitting the tank??? If you use the stuff they call steel shot I don't like it will go too far under ground because steel shot suck.

well I don't think the make steel shot for a .410 but if you would go the shotgun route a 20 ga with some number 9 shot would do the trick, I like the other ways mentioned better though, more creative, less messy. The hose trick does work I have tried it before, here is an idea, use the idea with the trap upside down and the hose trick in combination and then just sit back and watch the show.
