LovenLifeGuy
Another day on the lake and another night of thawing decoys. Today was real cold but boy I could not imagine missing a hunt like todays. A lot of birds in the area I hunted and they had no fear of my decoys. Today was a short one with four mallards making the bag. Unlike yesterday the birds were around early and often. The two guys I was going with today called late last night to cancel due to the cold, boy did they miss out. It's funny that one of them is sure up for going tommorrow and so am I. I hunted the river today and am woundering how everyone else did and if the lakes were locked up. Another duck dinner tonight and off again in the morning. Good luck!LovenLifeGuy

LovenLifeGuy
Went out yesterday on the mississippi. A lot of shooting going on, but not on our side of the river. The ducks were flaring and did not like my setup. We ended up with two and should have had more but I was lazy and did not change the setup because I had to leave early and make it to work. I will be out next week. Good luck and bring back the cold!LovenLifeGuy
Riverratpete
Hit a small lake by Carlos Avery this morning and spent alot of time just trying to break ice to get to our spot...after breaking ice for and hours and not seeing any birds decided it was time to give up the ghost for the season. Still got Grouse/Pheasants and of course ice fishing to look forward to, spoke to my bro a OTR Trucker whos down in S Illinois, outdoor radio down there is talking about the most birds they have seen in the last 5 years so at least we have an idea of where they went
loc9fisher
took my limit of mallards and geese on friday. it was my first time filling out on both greenheads and geese ever. it only took an hour and it was a great day.saturday the hunting was a little tougher, but there were 5 of us. tally at the end of the day was 16 mallards and 7 geese. there were birds moving all day, we never had a slow point for more than 45 minutes until the next big flock of mallards or geese came by. all in all a great weekend and it starting to be a great end to a great season. gotta love this cold weather.............loc9

snowgoose
Field hunted Saturday morning in the Big Lake area for geese. There are alot of new birds in the area hanging close to the river in Monticello. They are also hanging out on the lakes that are frozen over at night. We saw 400 to 500 birds but could not even get them close to the decoys. We had 150 bigfoots out and 30 field mallards. I think these birds have been shot at all the way down the flyway. If I even touched my call they would flare. They would responde to flaging but would flare at 200 yards plus. We were well hidden in blinds so I can't figure out what they were seeing. Also heard a lot of shooting on the river. I wish I was down there. Saw a lot of Mallards coming off the river but they were on a string and really high by the time they got to us.I think I'll change gears and chase pheasant when I can. I am heading to Iowa deer hunting in two weeks. Hope to bag a big buck early in the hunt and hit some roosters after that.Happy Thanksgiving everyone!Todd
