Dave
TV Boy, I'm doing the same and here's a thread on why I chose the LX-i. LX-i Close Up Look
Sergeant Slabber
I've been using my Marcum LX-i now for two years, and it is awesome for quickly checking depths. It has saved me alot of valuable time, especially when you're heading out right before dark and need to find a decent spot to set up quickly. icecold
2 seasons going on 3 with the polar vision works great
Dan_L
How reliable is the fish alarm? im pretty sure thats going to be under the tree 12/25 this year. im more interested in the depth finder, but if the fish alarm is fair thats a bonus for me. KidWalleye
I got the Lx-i for christmas two years ago and I love it. No more drilling holes just to find depths. All I bring is the lx-i and a small bottle of water. When I find my depth then I grab the auger. It is surprisingly accurate to my vex. Good luck, Kid
hoggs222
I've had the Vexilar one for about 5 or 6 years now. Still works great. All you need is a little water on the ice & you're good to go. I just use a small Benzomatic torch to melt some ice. That way you don't have to carry around a jug of water.
TV BOY
Does anyone know the cone angle of the polar vision. The vex is 22 i think.
icecold
Im not sure of the cone angle on my polar vision,I will check it out tomarrow after I get done duck hunting, I will probable take it with me when I go hunting just to see the depth of the river were Im hunting I will look for some ice ,just so I can say I used it this year
icecold
When I use my polar vision, I fill a squirt water bottle with straight R.V antifreeze works great to get a reading and you dont have to worry about water frezzing up on you.
DEADhead
I'll pretend I didn't see what you just wrote... Maybe try saltwater to reduce freezing, or a propane torch?let's try to keep chemicals out of our lakes; especially when on purpose.
ivegottabite
i would have to agree. there are enough ways for pollutants to get into our lakes and rivers. let's not do something like this.
Kodiak
isn't rv antifreeze just fruit juice? some kind of glychol or something, they use it in water lines, it is also used in windshield washer fluid so imagine how many gallons get back into the ground water anyway...but still.. icecold
If any of you guys are stern drive owners you would know that R.V antifrezze is used in winterizing because it is enviromentally safe, Can you honestly tell me that your boat motor or gas ice auger doesnt pollute the water. Im not going to worry about the 12 ozs of rv antifreeze that I use a year

76k20
? the food and drug administration deems this stuff as non hazerdous for ingestion.Ever spill a tablespoon of gas while filling an auger or setting one down with the vent open. Thats a lot worse than dumping 20 gallons of this dump in a lake.Im not saying we should all dump our old oil in the river here but geez, The guy is offering some advice on what he does and everybody jumps all over him.I think you guys need to Lighten up a bit.It would be different if he were dumping ethylene antifreeze (the green stuff)on the ice.
