I got a 10 point buck last Friday. It is my biggest deer rack (by far) in 20 years of hunting. He was 17" wide, 5" diameter main beams and the longest points were 9" long. (i'd post a pic if i knew how) he wasn't HUGE but he was real nice. I already dropped him off at the taxidermist, but would you have? How big is big enough?

thanks guys. i was pretty excited about him until i stopped for gas at a station about 5 miles west of Bemidji on HW2. They must have 50 deer and the only one close to my size was the albino! It is an amazing sight in there. Now i just have to wait until August to get him back.....

I would consider the details of the hunt into whether you get him mounted or not. For example, if you were driving out to your stand and he was standing there and you hopped out and shot him....mebbe not. If however, you scouted your stand spot, put in time, had an enjoyabe and ethical "hunt" that ended in taking the big guy, then for sure. So many people are hung up on B&C score or # of points. If it was a good hunt, you will relive it every time you look at him and have that nice warm feeling that comes from a good hunt (peeing your pants also produces that warm feeling, but I prefer the former). If it was a cheap one, you will relive that too. Something to consider.

I think he'd be on my wall, hard to know for sure without seeing him, but it's bigger than anything I've ever shot.

As long as it was legal, I don't agree with the details of the hunt helping determine if you should mount him or not. If he's not big enough in your eyes to mount, don't mount him. If you really want him on the wall & can afford it who cares what anybody else thinks, it's not their deer.

it was legal and a great hunt. the deer get lots of pressure and i have a spot where only a fool (me) would go, because getting them out is really tough, heck getting in is really tough. But that's where the deer are when they get pressure. i'm looking foreward to putting him on my wall.

That's cool, I've got a couple of little spots like that where they don't look that great & get overlooked, but in the right conditions I know I can go there & have a good chance of taking or at least seeing a deer. I'm not saying a trophy deer, just a deer, when most people are having a hard time even seeing one.

Good job, be proud, not arrogant, but proud.
