I have had a Cabela Card since they started issuing them. I use it for everything and so far I have gotten two electric trolling motors, a $400 snow mobile suit, several rods, presents for my wife, plugs, line, boots, socks, chest waders....you get it idea. It is a GREAT card to have. Just use it all the time for everything and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how fast the points add up.

Okay men......CHARGE!!!

Cabelas has a very good card for points. Nice thing about it is that it's free. You can only use your points at Cabelas who I feel do not offer the best value on most outdoor items. Meaning I can usually find similar items for less $$$. However, they are a one stop shop. There are many other cards that offer a better bonus, but it depends what your needs are. I use a major airline card.

I went on to Cab's HSOforum and they do 1% for all purchases, and 3% for cab's purchases. Gander is 1% and 5%. Sounds like if gander lets their uses use the card (with out discontinuing them) it is a better deal right now.

I put everything on my Cabela's card; groceries, cell phone bill, utilities, gas, etc. and pay it off each month. The points really add up. I went to the Cabela's VIP party last night (I'm not a VIP, I just work for Kraus-Anderson, who built the building) and picked up my new depth finder - FOR FREE. I love that card.

Kab, tell her you got her a depth finder. LOL

I once had a girlfriend, (no kidding) who liked to fish. Every birthday, Christmas, etc., I would give her fishing equipment that I bought from Cabelas with my card. Good stuff that I would like. She would leave the stuff at my place.

When I finally saw the light after about 6 years, and dumped her, I inherited the gear. Smartest thing I ever did.

Love the card. Use it for everything and pay it off every month.

They also will send you a hardcover Cabelas catalog and a year end accounting of every time you used the card.

The reality is neither card. Check various web sites such as Citibank and others. There are deals out there that blow both Cabelas and Gander out of the water. It also depends on spending habits. I currently am using a Citi card that pays 5% back on all gas and groceries. For me this adds up fast. Plus it pays 1% on all other charges. Unless it just makes you feel good to have that Cabelas on the card I would look around a bit before getting either of the cards mentioned.

Should be fishing

I hear ya, I have the same citi card (5% off on prescriptions too) such an excellent deal, especially with the price of gas nowdays. Only bad thing is they limit you to $300.max in cash back per calander year. So once we burn that up we start using Cabelas and gander.for the rest of the year.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
