IIRC she worked out of the store in Crystal, am I remembering correctly?

Anyhow, yes my kicker still has problems (works fine for an hour, after that it's useless for trolling - stalls won't idle). I've been on to Johnson about it and they gave me a few things to tell my dealer to do. So, I'm fixing to take it back for the last time - after which it becomes an ice fishing lure.

Steve,

Shoot me an e-mail at waletzko at hotmail (Contact US Regarding This Word) and I'll send you the e-mail address.. I'm not real sure why the last thread was deleted... but don't want to have this thread deleted as well...

Hey Steve, I'm sorry to hear your still having problems with your motor. I'm in the same boat with you still also. The lady's name who replied on here was Krista Wiederholt. I don't have her phone number, as I never got ahold of her or Myron. I would call Myron, his cell number is 612-865-7515. Yea, I'm kind of dissapointed the last thread was deleated too. Hope this helps you out! - Nick

The motor has run much better since the suzuki tech, but it still is loading up after sitting on the lake for a while. And I know it's not getting the top end that it should be. I'm only getting a GPS 42 mph with one person for a top end with a 20 pitch stainless, and others with the same package are getting upper 50's. I haven't contacted Crystal Pierz since because it has been suitable, and I love spending time on the lake, so I didn't want it in the shop anymore. This fall when CP and I are less busy I want them to hook it up to a dyno to see what kind of HP it's getting at the prop.

Upper 50mph with a 140hp 4 stroke and a 18ft Fisherman ?

No way at all. I had same boats and never got more than mid 40s , even a 18ft pro-V with a 150 Optimax 2 stroke got close to 50mph but not over.

And I'm talking Lowrance or Garmin boat mounted GPS not speedometer or handheld.

I remember the thread a little. I think Fishlakeman had a 150 Suzuki 2 stroke on a Lund Explorer?? I don't know about upper 50's, but it should be in the mid-40's for sure. There are many 200hp+ boats that can't hit the upper 50's GPS.

I agree. I have a 225 opti on my boat and can push 58-59, and even got in the low 60's by really pushing it on calm water... I know a guy with a 4 stroke Yamaha (I think 150?) on a 17' Lund and he runs in the mid-upper 40's... I think you are running pretty close to what it should, maybe expect a little more. Guys tell my my boat should run 62-65 no problem as "that is what they get with their comparable set-up" and I tell them I can easily get upper 50's but 60 and above is too hairy for me. I generally run in the low to mid 40's anyways. I think a lot of guys "stretch" how fast they are going or do not use a GPS but rather look at their speedo and round up...

Good Luck!

Ken

If he is running a 18' Explorer with a 150 he should be getting high fourties I would think. I have a 17 Explorer and 115 Yamaha 4 stroke and Im getting 43 mph fully loaded and 1 guy with a Jay Soderbloom tweaked 17" stainless.

I have the 18.5 Crestliner sportfish w/Yamaha 150 hp four stroke and get it up to 50 mph... maybe being a two stroke you can get a bit more out of it.... I wouldn't question low 50's, but I'd question high 50's for sure.

I have the same boat and motor.(Johnson 140) I might have hit 50 once shortly after I got the boat without passengers, gear or a full tank of fuel and on very calm water. In reality with gear a couple people and average water conditions I will top out slightly above 40 maybe 45. One thing to check. I also bought by rig from Crystal in Albert Lea. In my opinion they have the engine mounted 1 or 2 notches too low. When I raise the engine this winter or they do, I may gain some speed from less drag of the lower unit. Suzuki dealer in International Falls also said it needed to be raised. Might increase some speed there.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
