Historic collapse?

The White Sox had a 9½-game lead on Sept. 7 and were 15 games up on Aug. 1. No major league team has blown a lead that big over the next closest competitor, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Brooklyn Dodgers failed to make the playoffs in 1951 after holding a 13-game lead on Aug. 11 of that year.

The Boston Red Sox coughed up a 14-game lead to the Yankees in 1978, but New York was not in second place at the time it faced that deficit.

c'mon guys, lets keep our fingers crossed!!!

I heard from an inside source that Santana didn't have a blister on his finger last week, I heard he asked the coaches to hold him back until the Chicago series so he could try and knockout the Twins nemesis! And of course a 5-0 shutout with 13 strikeouts was impressive!! Too bad the Twins couldn't muster another run today, those palehose are really playing tight baseball right now!!

You must not be reading all the threads, Buzzy. I'm not leavin' till I'm heavin'.

Sox begin their final march to the playoffs tonight and finish it off with the Twinks on Sunday. Prediction: Sox take 5 of the 7 games.

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!

Buzz,

I still have not recieved any odds or wagers on my bold 6 way prediction. Read it and get back to me. It helps break the monotony until game time...20 minutes till the Hunt for October begins at Ground Zero...THE CELL!

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!

I hope this isn't too sick or sad for anyone reading this: so, without trying to minimize the catastrophe on 9-11, I will say that Ground Zero should be the way the Cell is referred to after the ChiSox collapse and then leave for the suburbs.

I'll take you up on this comment! I'll bet a six pack of Paulaner Hefe Weizen and a six pack of Blue Moon that your Sox do NOT win the 5 of 7 that you predict! If you win the wager, your favorite 12 beers will be sent to Illinois! Just let me know what you drink! Oh by the way, I see your already down 3-0 tonight... oh ohhh!

And it ended up 7-5 Tribe! Sweatin' bullets yet boys or are you still as calm and collected as you were with that 15 or 17 game lead you had a month ago? How do you Chicago boys really feel? Great because your still in first place or horrified because deep down you know the collapse is imminent?

I had to listen to the game on radio during a road trip. Heard all but the half-inning when the Sox tied it 4-4. Now I don't know how they handled that, but I gotta say that listening to the drab, mono way that Farmer and whatshisname (Rooney?) called the game was worse by ALOT compared to listening to Harrelson-who is now the lesser of 2 evils for me. Get me an internet radio connection to Cleveland, please!

PS Forgot to add this when I posted originally:

Windy, what was that you call Garcia? The Real (Lousy) Deal?

Heres some more good news for Windy and Jimbo.

2 1/2 game lead

Tonight it's Westbrook vs Buehrle

Tommorrow it's Elarton vs Judy Garland

Then the Tribe plays KC (can you say sweep)!!

chicago plays the Twins and gets Santana in the first game of the series!!! We all know how they fared against him the other day!!

Yeah baby, yeah!!!!

Did I mention that my new avatar is actually a tribute to the White Sox??

Windy - I have withheld comment on this subject because basically it's the other league, and as you know I want to face the other Sox this year, selfish reasons maybe..

I have a feeling that if your Sox get in to the playoffs without mo it's going to be difficult if not impossible for them to get out of the first round. I just saw where the Indians have leap frogged to #2 behind my Cardinals and well the White Sox are on the bottom of the top 5 in the power rankings.

I feel sorry for the fans, so many years have been replaced by so many fears as of late, a terrible feeling for a die hard Sox fan almost devastating, but hang in there you Sox fans baseballs a funny game. Choke is such a harsh word I hate it and lived through it with my Browns getting knocked out everytime we faced the Bronco's in the play off's gutwrenching losses. I wish you luck Paloes fans the best team after 162 games will get in...

I really hate to see a collapse like this, but for those who come to a Minnesota based board and spew the dump that some have done I guess I believe they have it coming. Modesty is a virtous trait that many, including myself, probably don't have enough of most of the time. For them there is always the other thing. IF YOU DON'T BRAG YOU WON'T HAVE TO EAT CROW!!!!! Some may learn the value of chewing!

I wouldn't get too personal in attacking the Sox fans that post here, Fishpepin. They have been around to keep the chatter going while the Twins slid away. Besides, it might jinx the Tribe and I know we wouldn't want that to happen.

THIS IS GONNA BE G-R-E-A-T!

2-0 Tribe in the second inning tonight, looks like the Tribe must be stealing signs against Buehrle!

Did the White Sox fans go into hiding or are they waiting for a win before they pop up again???? HMMMMMM

Oh wait, the Sox tied it at 2-2! Oops I blinked and Hafner blasted one for the tribe!! 3-2 Cleveland!

You don't have to eat if you don't show up. My guess is we may have very well seen the last of Windy. If the slide continues as its starting like tonight the fair weather poster will go into hibernation.

Only if he doesn't want to jinx his team will he hibernate. Until they are no longer in first, he has no crow on his menu. But I really would love to watch him take his first bite real soon.

Buzz,

What the heck is that avatar doing? Looks like he's movin' to that country song: Save a Horse, Ride a SoxFan!

Hey Geno, I think he's spankin' da White Sox booty! grin.gifblush.gif

Breaking (insert choking noise here) news... Casey "ex Twin" Blake just cracked a homerun off Buehrle to give the Tribe a 4-3 lead AND knock staff ace and crybaby Buehrle out of the game. In comes something called COTTS... Crisp with a sharp single, Peralta follows with a sharp single!! OH NO!! Isn't this a home game for the SOX?? Man that must be one quiet stadium right now! Whats Hafner got in store for this Cotts character????

OH LORDY!! A double to deep right field to score another!! Great relivers in Chi-town!! One out and up comes Victor Martinez with two ducks in scoring position... whats he gonna do??? ahhh intentional walk to set up the DP opportunity... and it worked. Ick, they just brought in Howry! He stinks and will probably mess it all up!! I'm going to bed, still can't wait to hear where Backherup, I mean Windy and Jimbo have been hiding.
