The Moss Factor

Down to Earth

Recommended Posts

How many weeks into the season will take until the Moss trade is no longer the main topic of Viking football discussion? I listen to KFAN quite a bit and its one of the major topics that is consistently being brought up about the lousy offense play. Will we be hearing this all season?

You will if the offense doesn't perform. Just wait until Golden Boy Favre goes and all you hear about is his loss, think its any different? I might argue its bigger, Moss is in his prime and Brett is well past his...

I don't care what anybody says, that whole offense has been built around Randy. He made everything easier by setting up a 10 on 9 situation on every play. He made the running game possible and he made Culpepper look like a better QB than he is.

I've been against this trade since day one, and if that is what our offense looks like all year, it will prove me right beyond a shadow of a doubt!

It will probably go on all year and into next if the Vikes don't play to the highest level. Every failure the offense has will bring it up. Even if the offense does everything it did last year it will be said by some, "Just imagine if we still had Moss". I wish it was different but I just do see it that way. The trade should be judged by if the Vikings are a better team this year not by if they are a better offense. This trade was not about a exchange of talent but change of atmosphere and culture on the club. I don't think it can be accurately judged until well into the season or playoffs which will keep the discussion going.

I treat the Moss trade like I treat the loss of the MN North Stars. They are gone .. get over it... If anything and it was touched during the broadcast on Sunday was look at what the defense gained in salary cap money to add players. If you want to 6 points were scored by a player that would not be here with out moss's money. Could have should have would have. Everyone knows what to do the day after the game. 15 more to go, wait and see,,

I'm with you Down to Earth. It's a done deal, has been for a long time, it's time to move on. Did you notice in the preseason whenever Tice or Culpepper got interviewed on the sidelines that whenever he was brought up in a question, they would just change the subject and not answer the question directly?

I for one am sick of hearing about it and wish the media would let the team move on and play their own game.

I know its only two games, and I expect C-Pep to bounce back eventually, but I'm starting to think possibly that Culpepper was the product of Randy Moss. 2 games without and his passer rating has never been worse. I know the O-Line is not what it was, but still I don't think that was the problem today. It's hard to tell since they both left at the same time, but I wonder how much of it is the loss of Linehan as well.

I think it is a whole domino effect that got into his head. Linehan goes and he wonders if he can do it. Moss goes and he wonders a little more. Onterrio Smith goes and he wonders. Birk gets hurt and he wonders again. Next thing you know he is getting his rear end beat by a nasty Tampa defense and he no longer wonders but is starting to believe. His head is so bewildered he doesn't realize he has the ability to be successful with average talent around him.

How many of you out there wanted Moss gone? I know quite a few. I wasn't one on them. I think now we are realizing what he meant not only to our offense, but our team as a whole. Instead of fine tuning I think we are now back to completely rebuilding the team from the coach on down. Depressing..... frown.gif

I was not opposed to moving Moss but I needed more than we got. Yesterday's game was not the way it was because Moss was gone. In part, yes, but lets look at this possible scenario. Moss is still a Viking, the team starts out horribly, and things go down hill. What happens? Moss pouts, doesn't run routes, yells at Daunte, walks off the field. That also would have been very possible. Would the team be in better shape had that happened? I just think there is way more wrong than Moss being gone. Remember Moss' team is 0-2 also and where did all his talent get us the last few years with him as one of the leaders?

Here are Daunte's stats last year from the 5 games Moss was out last year.

W L ATT COMP PCT. YRDS TDS INT FUM

2 3 166 113 69.8 1179 9 2 1

All three of his turnovers came in the Giants debacle and we always had a [PoorWordUsage] poor game against them when Moss played also.

Food for thought.

Unfortunatly, yes.....Forget Moss, done and over. The vikes got more than just the trade. They were able to sign alot of players on the defence with that cap money freed up.

7 TURNOVERS???.....THANKS TO A COUPLE PENALTIES IT WASN'T 9. crazy.gif

THE WHOLE OFFENCE HAS TO GET THIER [PoorWordUsage] IN A GROUP.

that poor defence, they spent enough time on the field for 2 games.

The mind freak has got to go.

They didn't need to trade Moss to free up cap room. They were so far under the cap, they could have signed those players and still kept Moss.

EXACTLY! Red was just too cheap to get good players and pay up to the cap. Go to ESPN dot com today and read Jimmie Johnson's article comparing us to the old Bengals. Essentially it says you can only be a cheapskate so long before it comes back to haunt you...

the Viking TEAM needed to be rid of Randy Moss no one player is better the the TEAM. That is what they preach no I in TEAM Vikes will win some and they will lose some and the losses will be ugly and we will blame the loss of Moss and many other factors. No team stays the same it changes and it grows. DC needs to grow some in his game and I am sure Tice is preaching and pounding the clip board. Better get that pencil out from behind his ear or he will be the first to go this season. Moss is gone he will be replaced, may take more then one cuz he was a is a great receiver but he brought a lot of baggage with him. You watch this board the Vikes will get their act together and win a few, perhaps even some they should lose and the band wagon will be full again and purple will be flying..We only need to beat the PACKERS to have a good year... Hhahahh

I agree Red was cheap, no doubt about that. I didn't say they traded Moss to free up cap money, but that they signed alot of players with that money. According to the numbers I looked at they are operating about 5% under the cap. I guess I don't see that as unreasonable. Now maybe that wasn't true last year.
