So much for the White Sox Collapse

Tim,

Yeah sure...and they call them 100 yr floods too. Were the Phillies in 1st all year (as Windy likes to remind us his Sox have been)? At least the Phillies made up for it somewhat throughout the years since. I was too young to have paid much attention to '64 - although I think that was the year the Cubs gave Brock to the Cards? or was it '66? Player-wise, maybe Broglio was the biggest collapse. So my Cubbies win hands down - worst trade and worst collapse. We need the Sox/Tribe to come through for us!

This could be a bigger collapse than the Cubs pulled in '69-that would really help the Sox pr dept-NOT!

I see a few are coming around to my theory.

This is ugly and it's getting worse it's down to 5 1/2 games.

I did make it to the Sox game Friday night against the Angels (too bad they lost in extra innings). We ended up with even better seats, we were sitting in sec 130 row 16 right behind home plate. That is a very nice ballpark but in a real shady part of town. All I can say is the Twins need an outdoor stadium.

How can such a good team lose so pathetically to the Royals??? I'd be nervous heading into the playoffs... I mean that seriously, not sarcastically.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas City manager Buddy Bell knew it had been a long time since the Royals came back from a deficit entering the ninth inning.

"I knew it was over 100 games," Bell said. "We'd get close, but not over the hump."

The Royals rallied with three runs in the ninth to defeat the Chicago White Sox 10-9 Wednesday night, snapping a franchise-record 104-game losing streak in which they trailed after eight innings. The last time they won with a deficit entering the ninth was Aug. 31, 2004, against Detroit.

"It is nice to break that streak," said Mark Teahen, who scored the winning run. "I'm definitely enjoying it."

Angel Berroa's double drove in the tying run, and Jermaine Dye's fielding error allowed Teahen to score the winner. Chicago lost for just the fourth time in 17 games against Kansas City this season, and had its AL Central lead cut to five games over the Cleveland Indians -- the smallest lead for the White Sox since before play on June 16.

"The grass is a little wet," Dye said of his error. "I was trying to cut the ball off and give us a chance to hold the runners."

White Sox closer Dustin Hermanson (1-4) blew his fourth save in 38 chances.

"I made some mistakes and paid for it," he said.

I thought I read another article, I will post link when I find it, about somebody appearing in the out field seats flashing signals to the royals batters or something.

anyone else catch word of this?

You mean the guy the Royals picked up from the Rangers to steal signs. I believe he works for the same group that sends out all the little voices Buerhle has been hearing while he is on the mound.

Not only the loss, but the misplay of that inside-the-parker by "MVP" candidate (what a joke) Posednik afraid of a little fence, and then not being able to pick it up clean and then the ball skips right past the relay man. Shoot, a bunch of girls could have made that play. But it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Good comeback there, Windy, but I don't have to be nervous since the Flubs have been out of it for so long. They haven't beaten Cincy all year. They can only handle the Cards. You, on the other hand, have alot to be nervous about as you have yet to see the Sox handle Cleveland with so much at stake.

Yeah, Sled, real enjoyable rooting against some teams. All for the right reasons too. Thank goodness the Tigers bowed out earlier so ol' Backerup gave up the ghost to Windy and the Injun. At least Jim has already stopped posting.

Won't be long till we say sayanora (sp?) to the Windbag. I think I now know what they mean in that song about the "Southside Shuffle" - and it's happening right in front of Windy's eyes. But he just can't see it yet. Must keep his eyes closed when he rides a rollercoaster.

HMMM.... so Buehrle and I agree on something.

QUOTE: from Buehrle.

``Ever since the All-Star break, it seems like I haven't had too many good games. It's frustrating,'' said Buehrle. ``We've still got six games with Cleveland. And the way that they're playing, they could sweep us right now. If we keep on playing like we're playing, we're not going to the playoffs. We'll be home on Oct. 3.''

Geno,

I thought I was being a "fan". You know, the kind of person that you Cubbie lovers say is the true fan. The kind of people that will cram 3 million of their butts into that rat trap up north to watch a pitiful team with a huge bloated payroll and a bunch of fragile, prima dona's finish below .500 year after year. You know, that kind of fan. Excuse me for believing in the team with the best record in the American League. Forgive me for believing in the team with the smallest "magic number" in the American League. Forgive me for rooting for a team that has been in FIRST PLACE EVERY DAY OF THIS SEASON. Forgive me for rooting for the team that I have rooted for for my entire life. Forgive me for rooting for the team that I have defended for the last 4 years on this HSOforum. I guess I am not the kind of "fan" you fellas up in "boys town" appreciate. Funny, I thought I was a Sox fan, but I guess I have not realized how bad they are this year. You are right, the Cubbies were a much better team. I will try to start going to some more of their games...Just not after October 2nd this year!

MAGIC NUMBER 13...Going Down Tomorrow!

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!

Windy,

Loved your post and smiled at every sentence 'cause I know you have a long history of rooting for losers on the SSide too so when you get the chance to gloat you can't let it slip by. I will never deny your right to root for your favorite team. I just don't understand why.

My bro-in-law is a SSider and we always have good discussions. Of course, anytime we are together he is outmuscled by some of those 3Mill butts that are more prevalent in Chitown.

The handful of us that keep the pot stirring on a daily basis really makes my day. ALMOST all is forgiven-if you stop the generalizations about Cub fans we can kiss and make up, but when you seem to lump us all together I take it too personally. I'm almost used to it - CAN I HAVE ANOTHER, SIR?

Interesting ending to the season coming up for you.

I think its going to be a really intersting end of the season. In the AL east, you got yanks within 1.5 of Boston, so that race is close, in the AL central, Sox are hanging on for dear life, while Cleveland just claws away, AL West has been a tight race for as long as I can remember. Division races, plus 3 division runner ups all competing for the wildcard, means for some darn good baseball.

In the NL, looks like the Cards got it wrapped up, same with Atlanta not sure there though havent been followin them much, but the NL west..... my gosh if San Diego wins with a record under .500, they should automatically forfiet their play off spot, good gosh. NL wild card looks like its going to be a barn burner as well. Man this is going to get exciting for everyone.

As for the smalk talk, I am glad to see if coming back again finally, its been pretty dry around here after the twins started to stink it up. Its all in good fun, and it helps the old work day go by a little quicker. I enjoy the entertainment as well.

May the best team(s) win!
