I'm interested in first hand observations and opinions as well. Consumer Reports didn't care for them, advised pretty significant engine virbration. But, IMO they have a bias against domestic manufacturers. The five cylinder is a bit of a departure for GM, but Audi has run them for years.

These trucks are still to new and to few to be able to say anything about. I have done a couple of oil changes on them and so far am not impressed with several itmes. The biggest being the non seperable rotor. I thought the only manufacturer still using these was nissan and then bam gm goes back to it. what does this mean for you. A possible large bill for a simple break job. what does this mean for us. More expensive equipment to by to service a specific vehicle.

It will be interesting to see if they will be reliable or if they will have the many problems like the s series pickups and suv's

I had one as a rental when my Silverado was in for warranty work.

It reminded me of a go kart, poor ride, lots of road noise, poor handling, and therefore they are way way way overpriced.

If you are looking at small trucks, be sure to test drive a Ranger. They have nice tight feel to them. My last one went 230,000 miles and the engineering feels much better than other small trucks I test drove.

Have you looked at a Toyota Tacoma. They are a little more pricy than the other mid-size trucks, but they retain their value very well. I have one myself and these trucks are bullet proof and have taken everything I have thrown at it, and perform very well on and offroad, they also make a quad cab.

I dont know anything about the Colorado, but I can say if you're still open to suggestions the Nissan Frontier is a fantastic compact truck. They are available in a crew cab and are quite roomy for the size of the vehicle. I am a Ford guy at hear but have had a Nissan Xterra for the last 18 mos. I like it alot and have actually replaced some parts on it with ones from the Frontier. I like the style, handling and they come with a great engine. Very sporty.

I have a 2005 colorado crew cab and I love it. Its gets better gas mileage than my blazer ever did, it rides better and, and also has a fair amount of power. One thing I don't like about it is the center console, very cheesy and small, my blazer had more storage and was better looking. Other than that I have been very satified with it and am not kicking myself for buying it.

I have an 05 Colorado and I have had no problems with it I havent even had it a year and I already have 24,000+ miles on it I think that 5 cyclinder is way better than the 4.3 v6 I know its a little bigger than the s-10 was but I think it better thats just my 0.2 cents smile.gif I have only found one thing that I dont like about it is how they put the spare tire off to the left side whats up with that I wanted to put duel exaust on it but with it like that I cant run them straight off the back it kinda sucks but oh well other than that no problems I happy with it

I currently have a 2005 Colorado Z71 4dr 6cyl, and previously had a Dakota SLT 4dr 8 cyl. In comparison, I prefer the Dakota for everything except the gas milage.

In the Dakota, I never had a problem with hauling or towing. The Colorado has given me some touble with the bed size and wheel well placement.

My 2 youngest (Now 10 and 12) were able to fit in the back seat with leg room to spare and with the Colorado, They both fight over who gets to sit behind mom for the leg room. (I'm just over 6'1" and there is only about 8" of room between the back of my seat and the back seat.

For the gas milage, I got 15-16 (city) and 17-18 (hwy) in the Dakota, and in the Colorado, I get 20-22 (hwy) 19-20 (city) and 14-16 pulling the boat. I had a lighter boat when I had the Dakota, so the comparison isn't really accurate there, but in pulling a trailer of comparable weight with the Dakota (once) there was minimal impact on the MPG.

I have 2 kids also. The oldest is 16 and she short (5'2"). My son is 14 and 5'9" so they need the room in back. I also have 3 big dogs. 75, 90, and 130 pounds. I need a topper so they can ride in the back. They can't give me a for sure answer if I can get a topper for it. Do any of you have a topper?

Don't take this that the Colorado is not a good truck or that any other small to midsize truck is bad but I have had both small trucks (s-10's, ranger, and Dakota)and 2 different Silverados. My opinion is that the relatively small price difference for a full size truck is money well spent in the long run. Fuel mileage is not much different provided it is not a 3/4 ton with a larger engine. Longevity, comfort, towing ability and resale value have convinced me to stay away from these smaller trucks. I would buy a used full size before I would consider a new small to midsize. Just something to think about.

I chose a mid size, specifically because it was a mid size. At the time I was working in downtown St. Paul and it was either too difficult or too expensive to find parking for the full size trucks. Now that parking is no longer an issue, my next truck will most likely be full size.

Yes, I have seen a topper for it, I don't know who makes it. I have a fiberglass tonneu for it made by ARE and it is slick. It looks great and works nice. One thing about the legroom in the back seats, I am 6'3" and I actually have to pull the seat up about 4" to be comfortable. Meaning there is plenty of legroom in the back for an adult. If I were you I would take your entire family for a test drive to see if they fit.
