Bear hunters

Whats the scoop this year. Are there lots of berries? anyone been out baiting yet?

Set up 4 baits Friday and 2 were hit by Sunday. Also set up 2 more. I will get a report on all 6 tomorrow. It started out with lots of berries but since it was dry that seemed to help drop the berries and it is looking good for us hunters. I did see 1 bear running down the trail about 40 yards infront of me.

Put out 6 baits got 2 hits. No berries, no hazel nuts, but it looks like there might be a bumper crop of white oaks. It might get rough. But doing good so far.

I'm in area 45. Put only two test baits out on Sunday - both were hit hard by Monday. Set up one crib today and found a nice size track and scat full of berries/seeds next to the cornfield. Large bear...just hope he sticks around! I'm seeing only a few berries, poor hazelnut crop, but noticed the oaks are droppin' a bit now. Can't check bait until Thursday - can't wait!

In area 44 and the berry crop was small along with no hazelnuts that I saw. I agree the white oaks do have a lot of nuts this year. Put out 5 baits Saturday and 3 were hit Sunday.

I put out 5 baits last Saturday. Every where I looked the natural food source looked to be extremely high. Between the berries and the acorns (red and white oak), it might be a tough year. I only bait once a week and I like to go really heavy.

Hey guys, my baits are being hit everday by the same bear (I think)and things are looking good so far. but I have a question for someone that will be hunting with a bow this year. I switched my broadheads again and have switched to the NAP 125 spitfires. they are shooting great but i am worried about the long hair on bear and will it be a problem. any opinions would be great.

Went up and checked the baits Sunday and 4 out of 5 were hit. To long to go before opener though.

Roosterslayer, Don't worry...I've shot three bears with the N.A.P. expandables and none of them made it out of my sight! Have two on video going down within 15 yards of the shot...the other one made it about 25 yards but he got behind a big pine so we didn't get it on camera. They are an awesome broadhead for bear and deer.

We have 10 stations at 1/person and we bait it 2 times a week. The bears cleaned it out each time we bait it. Looking good so far. This'll be a interesting 1st year bear hunt for me. I'm doing bow-n-arrow.
