deer mineral attractent

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anybody had a secret recipe for a deer attractent. I bought some stuff off hsolist last year that worked good. Figure I'm paying alot for mostly salt though. I like to pour it on a stump and watch them tear it up. Anybody got a recipe??? Thanks.

Ive tried three different brands of blocks in different flavors and by the end of fall all blocks were equally reduced to bare dirt. the ones with additives like ground corn or soybeans dont last as long though as the song birds start picking at them as well as the deer. im going to try the HS Vita rack stuff in a few weeks when i go to the home farm to start prepping for bowhunting. i bought two new trail cameras and plan on placing one near the mineral lick. hopefully i get pix of a monster buck to share with everybody!

Have been using the mineral rocks from Utah(I think) this year and they hammer em! Expensive if bought packaged, cheaper if you can buy them bulk by the pound. Originally paying .25/lb and now my Dad found out they want .40/lb. Bottom line is the deer like them, much better results than with bagged stuff such as DeerCocaine.

Hunting with my buddy first time this year and he put down a bag of that deer caine. Came back to hunt with him a week later and that area looked destroyed by deer. I put some down last night by one of my stands...hopefully it draws some deer in because I have not seen squat in that stand this year...about to give up on it and find a new location.

Anybody have any results with the deer caine...good or bad?

Thanks. FL Sniper

I totally dig the deer cain. I bought the jogs of liquid this year for the first time and I had deer hitting the site the first night. I have a pic of the deer hitting the spot less than 12 hrs after I poured the liquid. The ground was still wet in the photo.

Gissert - you've got great taste in music although you should give some props to Mr. McMurtry!!!!

"I am not from here, I just live here, grew up somewhere far away"...

ps - I have no experience with deercain but was thinking of giving it a shot this year.

Wow! Nice spot on the McMurtry reference. Just saw him at the 400 Bar last week. He has a ton of lines that make great signatures. "I'm not from here, but people tell me, it's not like it used to be, say I should have been here, back about 10 years, before it got ruined by folks like me...."

I have a spot picked out for the DeerCain for next year in conjunction with another food plot I want to put in. I am gonna get all my mineral stations in as soon as I can after the snow is all gone.

The plain red mineral block worked great this year. I buried it halfway in the ground, and bashed it with a hammer. Then I poured some of the Block Topper product on it and they really seemed to like it. Every couple of weeks, I would bash the block with a hammer and repeat with Block Topper. They had that block reduced to dirt in about 8 weeks.

I am hoping the Deercain will require less upkeep.

Mineral blocks are legal all throughout the year. Some mineral blocks have corn and stuff in them. I think those would be illegal within 10 days of the season. The stuff I've dumped on my minerals is Buck Jam and Deer Cain. They are both minerals and from what I've read they are most effective after a rain has allowed them to leach into the soil or rotten stump. It's my first time trying them. I put some out a month ago and haven't checked them. I think they last until all the dirt or stump is eaten. I'm guessing that mine will still be effective in the spring, but I'm not sure.
