Slow Presentation for Bigger Bass

Griggs

Recommended Posts

I was just curious what are some good, slow presentations for big bass.

I've tried a jig with a trailer, but something about it dragging on the bottom in the weeds, I can't get a feel I like.

One that I do like is a Sinking Minnow Texas Rigged, letting it slowly sink down, then twitching it a bit, then let it sink down and continue.

I'm just curious what are some other ones you recommend.

Tom Wilson - You were talking about how I need to slow it down, thats what got me thinking, maybe you have some suggestions. I was going to head to O'Dowd this morning, but it was storming at about 5:00am so I cancelled. I'm still lookin to meet up with ya some time if your going to be in the area let me know.

This topic has been brought up before but how do you keep a wacky rigged worm weedless? Or are you choosing your spots and keeping it off the bottom? I would really like to start fishing the wacky rig more often, I just cant gain the confidence....or keep the weeds off!!

I don't use the O-ring or straw trick for durability, I'm with you, weedless. I hook it straight through the middle, turn the hook and insert from the bottom up so that the point is buried in the worm. Very weedless!

I don't really get how your dong that wacky weedless. I like the wacky, I use it from time to time.

I tried Jig with a YUM trailer, but I can't gain confidence in that, it just sits on the bottom in the weeds and I feel like nothing sees it, and any twitching action isn't doing much since its tangled in the weeds.

I guess I just need to learn how to fish off the bottom.

I went to O'Dowd today, with no sucess and lots of frustration trying these new things. I guess I'll just keep going..

You can buy hooks with weedgaurds on them so you can fish the wacky rig weedless. Deitz introduced that to me on this forum. It works well!

As for fishing slow deep, I like to use a plastic worm texas rigged. If you can find a weedline that has sand or rocks right off the edge of them, then you can work a worm, tube, jig, etc, very slowly with out worrying about the fish not seeing it in the weeds on the bottom.

Fishing slowly on a weedline does work and has its time and place where it will work. Although don't be afraid to rip that lure off the bottom every now and then, instead of dragging it on the bottom. Sometimes that quick movement is what will make the fish bite. At times I will take a jig and rip it 3-6 feet off the bottom and that sometimes gets there attention and they will usuall hit it on the fall.

Good luck!

I'll look into some weedless hooks. I also just got some senkos, I've been using gulp so I'll see if there much of a difference.

Anybody have any other slow presentations they like?

A lot of times if I'm fishing docks or defined weedlines - I'll simple fish a Texas rig without any weight at all. My favorite worm right now is the berkley GULP 7" Turtleback worm. The slow fall and weedless presentation have worked really well for me...

As i relized the fish i was catching this week were snapping, but mainly small, i started experimenting. I had been working my usual either Slug-go or a weightless YUM dinger. Both baits i fished anticipating a hit on the fall with the occasional hit on the retrieve. However, both baits riggged similarly, yielded smaller bass. I could even see the larger fish, yet i only caught a few.

The next day the same phenom occured. But instead of a constant effort with my go to rig, i switched to a wacky rig. I had only fished it once before. But I tell you those bigger fish (and yes the small ones too) just turn completely around, and suck that bait up. They inhale the entire thing. It was an awesome thing to observe how much the better the slower presentation worked on both the retrieve and fall.

My one complaint is the tough hooksets while fishing it weedless with mono line. All in definetly agree with those who choose a wacky rig as there slow presentation for those big bass.

How do you fish it wacky and then have it be weedless at the sametime? I've been keeping my Senko's hooked with an O-Ring. Are you burying the hook a little within the Senko body *under* the O-Ring?

...i guess I can see where that would offer a more difficult hookset. But is this how you're rigging it??

I suppose I do it a little different? I push the hook through at an off set point from the middle of the bait im using. Then I turn the hook and bury it into another part of the bait. Its the best way of fishing it weedless (that ive found) for the heavy mats of milfoil I fish. And I don't use an O-ring. Instead of hooking it once through the middle, i have the bend of the hook looping back up into it, burying the point. Hope that works for a description, it aint a typical wacky rig.

That's the same way I rig them too, stays mostly weedless, you'll collect a few here and there. I don't use the o-rings either, once the middle of my dinger is shot I texas rig them for a few. I'll probably average 3-4 fish per.

Anyone having a lot of luck on jig 'n pigs? I really need to get to trying these more.

We threw everything at them this morning and although the senko caught a few fish the jig n pig once again caught the most/biggest.Problem with senko's for me is their not as accurate to cast and the doggone sunfish drive you crazy to the point you half heartidly set the hook many times figuring it's another bait muncher only to find it was the real thing. Not often a problem with a jig.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
