Best combo Hunting/Fishing Trip

I'm trying to make some plans for a good combination bird hunting/fishing trip for next fall. For hunting I'm leaning towards waterfowl and/or pheasants and would like the option of spending some time fishing. I will be finishing school next spring and my my dad has been renevating a house for the past couple years so I would like to get a good week of fun in to celebrate in a way.

Anyone have suggestions for a good outfitter/location? Is Canada, ND, down South the way to go? Distance is not a huge concern, I have no problem with traveling for a good time! Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

I would suggest the Lake of the Woods area. Not pheasants but ruffed grouse (they taste better anyway) in that area and it has world class fishing. Tough to beat it and its close to home. Plus the price tag is not too bad. Good luck!

I've gone for Walleye and Grouse around the Winnie area. Lots of lakes to try if Winnie is tough and there seems to be plenty of grouse on either the state land or private land, also fairly easy to get permission.

We like to start fishing early, break for lunch and then hit the woods for grouse till dark.

You've never lived till you've tasted pan fried Walleye along with a baked Grouse after a hard day outdoors.

I have gone on a few trips to Lake of the Woods for combo trips. I duck hunt in the morning and fish in the evening. There are plenty of places to duck hunt between Warroad and Morris Point. The resorts up there will help you out with hunting info. I like Zipple Bay for ducks. Just watch out for the reserve areas in there.

Consider a walleye/crappie and grouse trip to the Ely, Mn area. Fall colors are at their peak and the fishing is pretty good then. The grouse should be on the upward side of their 10 yr. cycle, but with leaves still on the trees they can be tough to see. If your going to be tenting the nights will be cold by then. It's a great time of the year for this kind of stuff!

We've done the Winni walleye/grouse trip....good memories going there as a kid. I think I'm looking for something a bit more exotic perhaps (maybe not the right choice of words). My dad was born and raised in MN and hasn't been exposed to much else. Thought it would be nice to get ourselves introduced to something new for a world class experience.

Thanks for the replys..keep 'em comin'!

You could consider Devil's Lake for some fall fishing and waterfowling, maybe even pheasants. Or I'm sure the SD resevoirs are good too. Tony Dean might have some links on his webpage that would help you.

I took my Dad to SD last year Pheasant hunting, he's 73+ and had a great time. Made for an easy Christmas as he wanted hunting stuff to go back this year. He is now in forever if he wants to go.

Find a place that lets ya hunt on your own near a fishing place and you are good to go.

Thanks for the posts...anyone have any good information on hunts douth South? Anyone every hunt Argentina or have good success on the East/West coast for sea ducks?

I've done some looking into it would consider trying layout boats for Eiders or hunting brant from the rocks. I imagine seeing some of those big birds hit the water would be a heck of an experience.
