Paul Waldowski
Curious as to what you put on it and how it turned out
Mr.Seaguar
I thought you only cooked duck on a cedar plank?
riverrat56
I thought you only put carp on a board to cook it, and that was just to prepare the board for eating?
mwal
I haven't tried walleye on a plank but we have done steelhead ,salmon, and halibut and it turns out very good. We soak plank in water for a couple hours before grilling. We put fish skin side down and marinate with butter or chutney as it cooks. Fish is steamed from moisture in plank.Mwal
SCUMFROG
What are you cooking the plank on? Open fire, gril, or in the stove? I'd like to try this. Is there any thing you need to do to the plank?
mwal
We use charcoal grill, Make sure to soak planks by submerging in water for several hours. We use brick to hold them under. If they are to dry they catch fire and ruin your mealMwal
SCUMFROG
I might give this a try this weekend. I'll let you know if i do.
Ybone
I remember my exwife used to make something on a shingle.
Northlander
I have done fish on Cedar, Oak and Maple. All have their own tatse of course. Soak the plank for a few minutes and then toss it on the Brabeque on a low/med heat. To tell ya the truth I like it but I much prefer a good deep fried batter. Laketrout done this way is good with a bit of lemon and onion or whatever else ya like. Call saw mills and they will usually have some small planks leftover and you can usually get them free or cheap.

Mad Lake Bomber
From what I have read, walleye would not be a good option for cooking on a plank. This method should be reserved for oily fish like salmon and trout. I've never tried walleye this way so if someone can prove me wrong I would love to hear about the results! Paul Waldowski
MLB,I have tried it now twice. Both times it turned out great.I had also heard not to use it except with oily fish, hence why I asked the question. When it didn't get many responses, I figured I'd give it a whirl myself. ice_shack
Well I just may have to try this for myself. So tell me, if my neighbor put sealant on their cedar deck will it effect the taste of my fish?

Heidi
I had walleye on a plank last weekend and it was really good. Skin still on it and it was surrounded by mashed potatoes that were piped around it. Excellent
SCUMFROG
Ok, what if the skin is already removed from the fish, would it still be ok to eat?Should you sand the plank smooth? Can I just get a plank from Home Depot? Or cut my own?
Paul Waldowski
No problem if the skin is not on it. Also the planks that I used came from Byerly's.
SCUMFROG
Are you kidding, Byerly's.??? Well if so I'll have to check into getting one there then. Do you/would you add any spices to the walleye?
