Hey guys

I was wondering how often you can expect to get a non resident waterfowl permit in South Dakota. Is it an every year or an every other year type of deal. I am interested in applying for the 3 day one in the NE part of the state or the 10-day all state one.

Thanks

Nick

haha...you should just move here and you wont have to worry about it; thats what i did. well ok i didnt move here just for duck hunting, a job might have had something to do with it. sure beats the empty skies of minnesota though. and no lottery for my license to miss ducks three and out!

carpshooterdeluxe, ever apply at Graco down there?

I work for them up here in Minneapolis, not a bad company just a few bad cell managers to deal with.

I heard they are hireing several people down there for assembly jobs.

Application results were supposed to be out 6/23, but with the "new and improved" system, they're still not out. I believe you can still apply for second and third chance drawings though. We've been lucky enough the last 3 years to have been drawn.....what a blast, litterally!!!!!!

Holy Bat mobiles,we were drawn on our first try.I can't believe we got in on the first try with so many nonresadents applying.

Now we have to plan our scouting and hunting times, any one hunt upland out there while hunting waterfowl?

We will probably end up in the North east area or North central area.

I've hunted waterfowl the last 3 years in SD. Where? Anywhere in the eastern part of the state. I hunt generally an area from Watertown over to Redfield down to DeSmet/Arlington. I would love to try the area around Sand Lake but for some reason our goup does not. I've never hunting for ditch chickens in SD, too busy with the mallets. cool.gif

Well by some freak luck of nature I was drawn on my first try too. I was mainly applying to get a pref point so I could go in the future. I thougth for sure with only about 500 3 day licenses I wouldn't get one. Good thing I didn't draw a Mich bear tag. I didn't have any buddies apply with me either so it looks like its me and my lab pup braving the Dakotas.

Any help hints, suggestions or connections would be greatly appreciated. My email is [email protected]

Benny I live in Coon Rapids also. We should get together sometime and chat birds.

I got a tag on my first try also. I'll be hunting the potholes around the Huron/Woonsocket area.I've been pheasant hunting that area for the last 10 years, and the duck are everywhere and the duck hunters don't seem to exsist.Never see a duck hunter anywhere. Got to give it a try out there.

We got our tags also! First time applying. I have some friends that hunt 4-5 days a week over there so they should have the locations nailed down for us. Scouting is the key. Late October should be a gas!

Another first time winner. I have hunted pheasants near White Lake in both November and December and noted many mallards and geese with absolutely nobody hunting them. These birds were all seen feeding in fields. Any information on other areas of the state would be appreciated. I stayed at Richard Kiefers in White Lake. He runs a first class lodge at competitive rates. He runs a strictly pheasant operation. Anyone with information on other areas of the state would be appreciated. Contemplating trying the Lake Oahe or Watertown areas just to try something different. Also, what advice do others have regarding when to go. I have one other in my party leaving from the Twin Cities, may be able to team up with others to share cost, decoys, etc. We have one excellent lab which will be making the trip as well.

This is the 4th year in a row we've been drawn. We'll probably be going the last 2 weekends in Oct. Empty skies on opening day in MN aren't quite as nausiating when there's SD to look forward to

Hey HEDHUNTER if you ever feel like killn some ducks in the prairie out of your old john boat your more than welcome to come down. We can even chase some roosters around after we take care of the ducks. Most days after duck huntn I stop at wma's on the way back home and get my roosters. Now If you can figure out who this is.

Ah you figured it out. I got the grass ready for the coloring I just gotto figure out how much to leave nat and how much to color. I might go half and half starting green and as the season goes on mix more nat into it until it's all tan. As for south dak I didn't get drawn. But I got plentey of good spots around rwf. It seems the way everybody is talking that theres no ducks in Mn. That the only ones here must just follow me around to the places I go. wink.gif So your more than welcome to come on down. Well take care and good luck this season.
