stealth trail cams

Recommended Posts

hello, i just have a few questions about the stealth trail cam i just recieved. i put it out about a week ago and just checked it the other day, it showed that it has takin 12 pics already. my question is is for all you that have these trail cams is how much motion does it take to take a picture, is it going to be taking a pic of a squirrel, moving trees from the wind, it rained last couple days, are rain drops going to set it off. for all you that have these cams what is the percentage of the pics you get developed are pics of deer, bear, or what you were aiming to get pics of. also has there been any problems with them. any comments appreciated.

Chris,

The camera you have in set off by heat and not motion. Rain, wind blowen branches, etc. will not set in off. However, if it is set up facing east or west the sun itself can cet it off. Face the camera north or south for the best results. I have never gotten a picture of a squirel. Out of a 24 exposure roll I may have two misfires at the most. 12 pictures in a few days is very possible. This winter I couldn't check the camera often enough and would have 50-60 hits a week. Durring the summer/fall it will take two weeks to fill a roll but that can vary with the area your camera is set in. I've even gotten pictures of trespassers on posted property.

I typically set my cameras out around the fourth of July and bring them in around the middle of March.

It's amazing the number of buck pictures I get yet I never see them!

Good luck with your new camera!

Just a trick of the trade for people using a trail cam.

Make a poster stating "If anyone except(your name here)tries to develop this film please call (your phone here).

If your cam gets stolen - these jerks want to see what you have caught on film.

Tealitup;

You forgot to add the part about putting that sign in the first picture of every roll of film. crazy.gif may seem obvious but... Also if someone is considering a new digital cam there are some models now that can be made useless to a thief by a securty code that scrambles the images. I would like to get a sticker that says that for my cam without that feature.

The scrambling feature is an OK idea, but I don't think too many are going to figure out what kind of camera they are attempting to steal. And once they get it home and find out it doesnt work, they wont be returning it.

Image security features or not, your camera is still gone.
